6 Tips on Building an Employee Friendly Workforce Schedule in 2020

For many managers, creating a work schedule that’s balanced and fair is a seemingly impossible task. From managing employee fatigue, manually processing requests, managing budgets, accurately anticipating scheduling needs, filling shifts when no-show occurs, and maximizing productivity. It comes off as a tall order.

Until now.

Workforce Schedule

With the perfect work schedule in place, your business runs smoothly and efficiently while keeping your team happy and satisfied. But how is any of this attainable? We answer that and more in the tips outlined below.

6 Tips on Building an Employee Friendly Workforce Schedule in 2020

1. Keep projections accurate

Workforce scheduling requires accurate projections. Managers must be able to accurately anticipate and forecast the number of hours staff needs to get the job done.

In your projections, take the following into consideration: business growth, holiday peaks, and fluctuations in sales to accurately adjust staffing projections. If and when the situation should change, be sure to fine-tune the schedule.

2. Balance is a must

Without proper balance in your workforce scheduling, things can take a turn. If too many new hires or inexperienced workers are on the schedule for the same shift, you’ll only be faced with unwanted stress and dissatisfied customers. There must be a balance of “new” and “experienced” employees scheduled for any given shift.

3. Use an online solution

Just about everything is automated these days, so why shouldn’t your workforce schedule be as well? It helps make the entire process easy, accurate, and simple to access for you and your employees.

What is a scheduling app? Finances Online sum it up best, “Employee scheduling software is a workforce and scheduling management platform that helps owners and managers administer their hourly workers. Automating the process of creating schedules produces consistent results, manages labor costs, increases productivity, and improves workforce satisfaction. Its core function allows auto-assigning shifts, automating notifications for new schedules and shift changes, clock-in and clock-out features, timecard creation, and payroll file importation.”

Connecteam offers a free scheduling solution for all business sizes and types.

While on-the-go, you effectively get the entire schedule done while managing your employees’ everyday jobs and shifts. Create single, multiple, or team shifts with calendar view and drag & drop options, set recurring shifts, or dispatch jobs. Use the GPS status updates for visual job progress, and include a location for quick navigation, notes with a free text description, and file attachments for employee collaboration.

Learn more about Connecteam in this short video.

As mentioned, Connecteam has a free for life plan or you can get started for just $29/month for up to 200 users – this saves you a ton of money as you aren’t paying per user. Connecteam is easily the most affordable workforce scheduling solution in the market.

4. Finish the schedule ahead of time

Time plays a big part in creating an effective schedule. Some states even have predictive scheduling laws in place where managers must provide the schedule two weeks in advance. Whether or not you’re obligated to do so, all managers should work off the same basis and provide the schedule as far in advance as possible.

This allows your team to schedule their personal life around their work-life in a healthy way.

5. Cater to all employees

Creating an effective workforce schedule can’t be done right if you don’t know your employees well enough. Consider that employees with kids might want more day shifts, when their kids are at school, and college students might prefer night or weekend shifts.

When you create a schedule that works well for everyone, you have much happier and productive employees which only leads to better customer service.

6. Shift changes should be easy

Don’t have a dozen hoops in place just so your employees can swap shifts. Things happen unexpectedly all the time so be flexible and understanding. Above all, have crystal clear procedures in place to avoid confusion. Make it clear who needs to know about scheduling changes and how much time is needed in advance to process a change.

The bottom line…

By implementing the points we presented above, you can easily create a friendly and enjoyable work environment. All of which leads to happier employees and happier customers. Now that sounds like a win-win to us!

Japan Implements Significant Changes to Cryptocurrency Regulation Today

Japan Implements Significant Changes to Cryptocurrency Regulation Today

Major changes are happening in the cryptocurrency space in Japan as new cryptocurrency regulation enters into force today. Among notable changes are the regulation of crypto custody service providers and crypto derivatives businesses. Japan has 23 regulated crypto exchanges; unregulated platforms have modified their terms of service affecting Japanese residents.

Japan Adopts New Way to Regulate Crypto Industry

The amendments to the Payment Services Act (PSA) and the Financial Instruments and Exchange Act (FIEA) that revise the regulatory framework for cryptocurrency in Japan go into effect on May 1. They were proposed by the country’s top financial regulator, the Financial Services Agency (FSA), and adopted by the Diet on May 31 last year. The finalized rules were published on April 3 along with the FSA’s answers to public comments. International law firm Morrison & Foerster described:

The regulations coming into effect as of May 1, 2020, represent a significant change in the way the FSA will regulate cryptocurrency-related business activities of operators in Japan going forward.

Among the major changes are the regulation of cryptocurrency custody service providers that do not sell, purchase, or intermediate the sale and purchase of cryptocurrencies and cryptocurrency derivatives businesses. The former now falls under the PSA while the latter must register under the FIEA. A crypto derivatives business that also provides crypto custody service may need to register as a cryptocurrency exchange. In addition, the FSA previously explained to news.Bitcoin.com the implication of the new law on the possibility of a bitcoin exchange-traded fund (ETF) being approved in Japan.

The amendments “are quite extensive and many issues regarding the scope, applicability, and relevance of the regulations remain open to interpretation,” the law firm opined. The regulatory changes are summarized here.

Japan Applies Significant Changes to Cryptocurrency Regulation Today
Japan’s new cryptocurrency regulation enters into force today. Crypto custody service providers and crypto derivatives businesses are now regulated under the Payment Services Act (PSA) and the Financial Instruments and Exchange Act (FIEA), respectively.

Japanese Cryptocurrency Landscape Changing, Unlicensed Crypto Exchanges Exiting

Japan currently has 23 FSA-approved cryptocurrency exchanges. As the new regulation takes effect, unlicensed crypto trading platforms modify their terms of service to exclude Japanese users in compliance with the new law.

Global cryptocurrency exchange Bitmex, for example, announced that it would stop providing services to Japanese residents starting from 11 p.m. JST on April 30 for first-time registered users and 12 a.m. on May 1 for existing registered users. “We are restricting access to users who are Japan residents,” the exchange confirmed on Tuesday, adding:

The restrictions are in response to the amendments to the Japan Financial Instruments and Exchange Act and Japan Payment Services Act effective as of 1 May 2020.

“We will continue to work with the Japanese regulatory authorities to support their aims for the Japan market and will keep our Japan users updated,” Bitmex wrote.

Furthermore, the FSA announced on April 30 that it has approved two self-regulatory organizations (SROs) in the crypto sector: the Japan STO Association and the Japan Virtual and Crypto Assets Exchange Association (JVCEA). These organizations work closely with the FSA to enforce strict standards on the country’s crypto sector.

Xiaomi launches Mi Note 10 Lite with SD730G, 3D curved display & Android 10

After launching the Mi Note 10 and Mi Note 10 Pro, the Chinese smartphone maker has officially launched Mi Note 10 Lite globally. Although heavily teased thanks to numerous leaks and whatnot, the launch does make it a huge deal. The device isn’t that different from the standard Mi Note 10 except for the cameras and a few things here and there.

Talking about the specifications, Xiaomi has retained the 3D curved AMOLED 6.47-inch display with a 1080×2340 pixel resolution and a Corning Gorilla Glass 5 like its other siblings. The display reportedly can produce up to 430 nits of typical brightness although that remains to be tested independently.

The phone arrived with the same engine under the hood i.e. Qualcomm SNapdragon 730G with Adreno 618. The storage options are something you couldn’t find with Mi Note 10 for sure. The phone is available in 6+64GB and 8+128GB of internal storage configuration although there’s a third 8GB RAM variant too but we don’t know its pricing and when it will arrive as well.

Xiaomi Mi Note 10 Lite

Next up, the biggest difference Mi Note 10 Lite lists is a quad-camera setup with the primary sensor being 64MP instead of a humongous 108MP. Other sensors include an 8MP ultrawide sensor, a 2Mp macro sensor, and a 5MP depth sensor that will complete its camera cavalry at the back. There’s no telephoto sensor with the device so that’s a bummer for many. The front possesses a 16MP wide-angle camera with f/2.5 aperture nicely tucked in a tiny waterdrop-shaped (U-shaped) notch at the center of the upper bezel on the display.

The phone has a larger 5,260 mAh battery that will last for at least one and a half or two days based on the usage. It also gets a 30W fast charger that might not take much longer the juice up the battery. The 3.5mm headphone jack is available and it’s a relief.

Xiaomi Mi Note 10 Lite

The phone runs on the latest Android 10-based MIUI 11 and no doubt it will be among the Xiaomi devices that will get Android 11 R pretty soon. In fact, the company is already working on MIUI 13 as confirmed by its research team a few hours after launching MIUI 12 a few days ago.

Finally, the device will be available in three color variants i.e. Midnight Black, Glacier White, and Nebula Purple. About the pricing, the phone is hitting the stores mid-May at 349 Euros for its 6+64GB while the larger 6+128GB variant will be available at 399 Euros. Xiaomi hasn’t confirmed the exact date on its Indian release although I highly speculate that it will be soon.

Samsung Q1 Results Show Increased Smartphone Profits Despite COVID-19

Samsung has released results for Q1 2021 with the first quarter ended on March 31, 202. Apparently, Samsung Electronics reported revenue of KRW 55.33 trillion which is a whopping 7.6% down from Q1 2019. The company has quoted that the weak consumer electronics division, display business and due to the impact of COVID-19, the same did manage to suffer a bit. On the other hand, the company’s revenue rose by 5.6% in Q1 2020 compared to Q1 2019 thanks to the increasing demand for mobile components and servers.

According to the results, although the company managed to meet analysts’ expectations, it’s revenue went down a bit but the profit rose as stated above. The increase in profit could be because of the Samsung Galaxy S20 lineup that was released in February 2020 and of course the ongoing 5G portfolio.

Talking about the figures, the mobile division revenue for Q1 2020 is at 21.4 billion USD while it was at $22.5 billion last year in the same quarter. The operating profit for mobile is at $2.1 billion in Q1 2020 accelerating a bit from $1.8 billion recorded last year. Overall, the company recorded an overall operating profit of $5.34 billion in Q1 2020 alone.

Samsung has reportedly suppressed its expectation for the rest of the year due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic which is showing no signs of cooling down. Since the pandemic caused people to lose their jobs while many had their income withheld and the closure of many stores around the globe, the demand is taking a hit.

Samsung further added that since smartphone manufacturers have stocks ready to be shipped in these circumstances, there will be fierce and intensive competition between manufacturers where each is tasked to minimize the impact of the lockdown possibly by taking down the price tags that will be affordable for customers alike.

Justin Amash Reveals Third-Party Presidential Bid: Pro-Bitcoin Libertarian Candidate Targets Trump’s Seat

Justin Amash Reveals Third-Party Presidential Bid: Pro-Bitcoin Libertarian Candidate Targets Trump's Seat

U.S. President Donald Trump now has an unexpected challenger as the independent congressman from Michigan, Justin Amash, says he plans to run as a Libertarian candidate in the 2020 election. Besides John McAfee and Adam Kokesh, Amash is also a pro-crypto candidate, a believer in free markets, and has spoken positively about bitcoin seven years ago.

Is Trump’s Future Threatened by a Libertarian Candidate?

Justin Amash is pushing toward a third-party run for the President of the United States in 2020. Many believe Amash could add some heat to the presidential race by taking votes away from both the Democrat Joe Biden and Republican President Trump. After the popular candidate Andrew Yang left, there were only two candidates remaining who support cryptocurrencies; John McAfee and Adam Kokesh. However, with Amash running it would add another person who thinks positively about bitcoin and blockchain solutions. Amash is also well known for his staunch views toward upholding the U.S. constitution and limiting the role of government.

Justin Amash Reveals Third-Party Presidential Bid: Pro-Bitcoin Libertarian Candidate Targets Trump's Seat
Justin Amash.

“Today, I launched an exploratory committee to seek the Libertarian Party National’s nomination for President of the United States,” Amash tweeted on April 28. “Americans are ready for practical approaches based on humility and trust of the people.” Amash continued:

We’re ready for a presidency that will restore respect for our constitution and bring people together. I’m excited and honored to be taking these first steps toward serving Americans of every background as president.

Amash Aims to ‘Defend the Constitution and Put Individuals First’

The 40-year-old Michigan lawmaker is currently an independent, and he left the Republican party last year. In 2013, Forbes Magazine’s official Twitter account tweeted about bitcoin, and Amash tweeted back a response. “Congress is nervous about this whole Bitcoin thing,” Amash said at the time. His new website, amashforamerica.com, explains that Amash wants to bring something new to Americans.

“[Justin Amash] is for something new,” the website explains. “For a government that secures our rights. For equality before the law. For an end to cronyism. For a government that fulfills its purpose and recognizes its limits. For practical approaches based on humility and trust of the people. For an honest, principled president who will defend the constitution and put individuals first.”

Justin Amash Reveals Third-Party Presidential Bid: Pro-Bitcoin Libertarian Candidate Targets Trump's Seat

Despite the fact that Amash speaks often about being pro-liberty, not all Libertarians believe he is legitimate. Anarcho-capitalists and even members of the Libertarian party do not see real change in Amash, and the decisions he’s made as a Republican. Then again, a lot of libertarians do like Amash and are hopeful he will be better than Gary Johnson.

It’s also assumed that Amash could pick a running partner like Thomas Massie or Rand Paul in order to give him an edge. In fact, many people like Massie over Paul, and some have called representative Massie — Ron Paul’s long lost son. Justin Amash is different from Joe Biden and Donald Trump, this much is for sure. Both Biden and Trump are typical politicians and Amash’s Libertarian ideals may get him some votes. However, since Amash announced his candidacy, a great number of both Republicans and Democrats are scared witless that Amash will take away votes toward their favorite pick.

What do you think about Justin Amash running for U.S. President? Let us know in the comments below.

Airbnb partners with Ontario union to give Toronto healthcare workers free stays

Airbnb sign

Airbnb and SEIU Healthcare have partnered to provide healthcare workers in the Greater Toronto Area with free stays amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

SEIU Healthcare is the largest healthcare union in Canada, and now, its members in the GTA will be given free accommodations through Airbnb. Members of the union work in hospitals, home care, nursing and retirement homes, and community services throughout the province.

This is part of Airbnb’s global initiative to provide free housing to 100,000 healthcare workers. The company’s CEO, Brian Chesky, has committed nearly $700,000 of his own money to the cause.

SEIU Healthcare says that this contribution will go towards paying Toronto-area hosts to help fulfill stays for the healthcare workers.

“Hosts across Canada have opened their doors and offered places to stay for frontline responders, we’re grateful for their generosity and commitment to help,” Chesky said in a press release.

Although the free stays are being booked through SEIU Healthcare, frontline responders can also book free through Airbnb’s COVID-19 initiative page.

What it’s like to grow your own cannabis with the Canadian-made Grobo

Grobo

My experience with the Grobo’s automated cannabis growing device over the past year and a half has been mixed. In short, growing marijuana hydroponically, even with an automated machine, is a surprisingly complicated process.

While these issues may have delayed me writing this story, the additional time has given me more insight into the machine, the growing process and hydroponics in general, ultimately resulting in a better outcome with my following grow attempts.

With this in mind, what the Waterloo, Ontario-based company, founded by Bjorn Dawson and Chris Thiele, has accomplished with one of the industry’s first widely available automated marijuana growing machines, is undeniably remarkable.

When things are running smoothly, the experience is mostly hands-off and it does indeed grow potent weed. It’s just unfortunate the overall process of growing marijuana with the Grobo isn’t as streamlined as I hoped it would be.

First off, I picked up my Grobo from the company’s expansive warehouse, eager to get the device home and set it up. While bulky and heavy, I managed to fit the unit in my tiny car, though getting the $3,214 Grobo up to the condo I lived in at the time was a far more difficult task given its weight. Thankfully, Grobo offers delivery and the device ships to consumers nearly fully assembled.

The Grobo itself is great-looking and relatively non-descript. It’s a white, square box with a wooden top and bottom that comes in at roughly 121cm tall, making it relatively easy to slide into a closet, a garage or the corner of your home where it will remain relatively unnoticed (at least until you turn it on). Apart from its power cord, there’s a single button on the back of the device for opening and closing the Grobo’s door.

Inside there are five numbered bottles of nutrients, a basin and a plastic lid with a hole in the middle where the ‘coco pod‘ dips into the water so its roots can grow hydroponically. There’s fluid glass on the front of the unit so you can see your grow’s progress without opening the door, as well as LED lights on the top of the inside that switch between different spectrums to maximize the plant’s growth.

The Grobo is also connected to Wi-Fi, ensuring the device is configured for whatever seeds you’re growing in it. On the topic of cannabis seeds, there are countless options out there. Not being an expert on the subject led me to purchase a Sativa strain from Humbolt County in California called ‘Blue Dream.’ This seed selection ultimately turned out to be a mistake, but more on that later.

The setup process is relatively simple and only involved removing ample packaging, screwing in a carbon filter, soaking a coco pod in water, selecting a recipe, dropping in a seed and finally, filling the Grobo’s basin with distilled water,

All of these steps are navigated with Grobo’s simple web-based app, which offers users helpful suggestions throughout the grow, and allows users to change certain aspects of the device, including light timing (the company also runs a community forum called Allgrowers).

Up until this point, my experience with the Grobo was great. However, I quickly realized the device is far brighter and louder than I expected. While the company’s marketing material shows the Grobo sitting in a beautiful, Apple Store-inspired living room like an interesting conversation piece, that’s not practical. I quickly moved the Grobo to my front closet after the first week, which muted the unit’s sound significantly.

I recently moved to a house and now have the Grobo sitting in my garage, which seems like the ideal location for the device despite how sleek it looks, especially once the plants start budding and begin to smell a lot.

The Grobo features a built-in carbon filter designed to mitigate the pungent cannabis smell emitting from the device over the growing process, but in my experience, I found it doesn’t work that well. I attempted to use several different deodorizing methods, and while they helped the issue, the smell was nearly always around when my closet door was open.

Now, onto what the actual growing experience has been like.

The particular strain I selected for my first grow attempt wasn’t exactly the best idea. While the Grobo is compatible with this type of cannabis, Blue Dream tends to grow extremely high. This meant the plant was continually hitting the unit’s lights and burning. I attempted to trim it nearly daily, but it still shot up to the top of the Grobo regardless of how often I tried to slow its growth. I even started using a more advanced technique called ‘super cropping’ that involved bending stems of the plant to the side so they could grow horizontally rather than vertically.

My first lengthy grow attempt, unfortunately, ended with a completely dead plant after the Grobo’s air pump died while I was away on a work trip. This was particularly devastating because the over 100-day grow process was nearly complete at that point. Grobo sent me a new pump I was somewhat easily able to replace but still, given the device’s cost, I expected its components to last a little longer.

After an extensive cleaning following my first failed grow turning into a smelly swamp, my second attempt was mostly successful. I encountered an issue related to nutrient delivery that Stephen Cambell, Grobo’s horticulturist, helped me solve over the phone after he repeatedly pumped nutrients through a blocked tube to dislodge debris.

This time I selected an indica-dominant strain known as ‘Shishkaberry.’ This strain grows far lower and is almost shrub-like, thankfully removing the issues I experienced the first time around with the plant growing too tall.

Not being that experienced with cannabis or gardening in general, I always felt nervous about trimming my plants into the “lollipop shape” the Grobo app pushed me towards with its helpful suggestions. This is something I managed to get over as I started to gain a greater understanding of what leaves needed to be removed for the plant to concentrate on growing the actual cannabis buds.

At the end of my first successful grow, I cut off all of the branches and trimmed the excess leaves surrounding the buds and left them for six days on Grobo’s magnetic drying rack inside the device. Then, I cut them a bit more and put the roughly 46g of marijuana I grew — which by the way, is a pretty cool thing to be able to say — in a large glass jar to cure.

The curing process still remains a little unclear to me, with it ultimately coming down to personal preference to some extent. I ended up keeping my cannabis in an airtight container for roughly two weeks, opening it once or twice a day to let a little moisture in. After researching curing after this grow, I realized some strains require up to four to eight weeks of curing.

Fast-forward to now and my latest grow with a sativa strain called ‘White Widow’ seems to have started off swimmingly. Unfortunately, given the current COVID-19 pandemic, changing out the basin with distilled water every week is no longer an option for me, which I’m concerned will have a detrimental effect on the plant’s overall growth.

In the end, my experience with the Grobo has been mostly positive. While I’m disappointed in the technical issues I encountered given the device’s price tag, it still offers a relatively automated experience.

There have also been improvements to the app over the last few months, including a new feature allowing users to configure the Grobo’s built-in PH sensor without contacting the company, as well as additional support for more strains. Grobo has even released a new version of the device that doesn’t feature a fluid glass window called the ‘Grobo Solid’ that costs a slightly less expensive $2,795.

As impressive as it is, the Grobo also isn’t exactly as automated as it might seem. Anyone following my sometimes frustrated Instagram stories related to the device over the last year and a half can quickly tell how frustrating the process can be.

Any way you look at it, dropping this amount of money on a device that grows cannabis is an expensive proposition, especially now that marijuana is legal across Canada and readily available.

Still, if you have the money and you’ve always wondered what it would be like to grow your own cannabis, picking up a Grobo is one of the few options out there that will almost certainly result in you growing a top-tier cannabis plant. However, as automated at the machine does make things you still need to interact with it often as it guides you through the growing process.

You can learn more about the Grobo on the company’s website.

Moovby Launches Iftar4u e-Bazaar; Includes ‘Sadaqah’ Feature For Food Donations

In conjunction with the month of Ramadan, peer-to-peer car-sharing service Moovby has launched its e-bazaar platform Iftar4u, with the recommendation of the Menteri Besar Selangor Incorporated (MBI). The platform enables users to order a wide variety of local delicacies directly via the Moovby app.

Iftar4u has partnered with homegrown delivery services so users can receive their food quickly and affordably. The brand added that the service is available for Selangor residents, and has implemented centralised checkpoints for merchants to drop off their food orders for runners to pick up and deliver from. These checkpoints are restaurants or cafes located in Subang, Gombak, Cyberjaya, Shah Alam and Bangi. Locations such as Petaling Jaya, Damansara, Seri Kembangan, Puchong and Ampang are slated to be included soon, with even more checkpoints planned throughout the month.

On top of being an e-bazaar platform, Moovby added that Iftar4u also enables users to donate packed foods to their chosen asnaf, tahfiz, refugees, the homeless, or mosques within Selangor. Waze Tests Lane Guidance During Navigation

Waze remains a strong alternative to Google Maps, despite now being owned by the same company. But you’d expect that there’s some parity between the two, considering that fact. While the latter has had lane guidance for the longest time, it remains an oft-requested feature for the former. But it looks like it may finally be happening.

Israeli site Geektime reports that Waze is finally testing lane guidance in the region. It works quite similarly to the feature found in Google Maps. But unlike the latter’s implementation, where they just show up, there’s a nice animation going on to make it obvious, diverting your attention there.

Waze lane guidance

The guidance will only appear at set distances away from a junction, though. This is set at 500m before a junction in city roads, and 1km on highways. Unfortunately, it doesn’t looks like there will be any lane guidance for roundabouts just yet.

Lane guidance will begin rolling out on the Waze beta channel in Israel in the coming days. For now, there’s no word on when the feature will be released to the international public. Here’s hoping that the feature makes it to the general public at the end of the Movement Control Order (MCO).

Facebook users can now transfer their photos and videos to Google Photos

Facebook has launched a tool that lets users in Canada and the U.S. transfer their photos and videos directly to Google Photos.

Users just have to go into the ‘Your Facebook Information’ in their settings, select ‘Transfer a Copy of Your Photos or Videos’ and choose Google Photos from the dropdown menu.

Once you confirm the transfer and enter your Google Photos password, the transfer will begin. Users will receive a notification on Facebook and through email once the transfer is complete.

Facebook says that this new feature stems form its work on the Data Transfer Project, which is a collaborative initiative to create data portability tools that allow users to easily move their data between online services.

“We believe that if you share data with one service, you should be able to move it to another. That’s the principle of data portability, which gives people control and choice while also encouraging innovation,” Facebook notes.

The social media giant says that it will be adding more services that users will be able to transfer their data to, but that it’s starting with Google Photos for now.

Sabah Agrees With Federal Govt’s New Ruling After Serious Consideration

Sabah now allows for two household members to share one vehicle to shop for essential everyday items. Initially, the state had not proceeded with the latest ruling issued by the Federal Government for Phase 4 of the Movement Control Order (MCO) due to concerns of any adverse effects it might have on its citizens’ wellbeing.

The state government came to a conclusion to allow the new rule to be applied after a meeting was held at the Sabah COVID-19 Command Centre earlier today on 30 April 2020.

“In accordance with the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures within Infected Local Areas) (No. 4) Regulations 2020, one is allowed to be accompanied by another person to go out and obtain essential items such as food, medicine and any need, provided that the accompanying person is living in the same house,” said Sabah state secretary Datuk Safar Untong in a statement.

Additionally, he added that an individual could be accompanied by any other person as may be deemed reasonably necessary in terms of requiring healthcare and medical services as well. Prior to this, Sabah chief minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal told reporters that two people travelling in one vehicle would only be allowed for specific purposes.

On another note, the Sarawak government confirmed that it will also follow the latest national ruling in the state as announced by deputy chief minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas earlier today.

How to clean your AirPods case

AirPods 2

You might use your AirPods every day, but how often do you take the time to clean the case properly? Here’s our full step-by-step guide on how to.

AirPods are among Apple’s most iconic products, and while you might regularly clean the prized earphones themselves, it’s also important to make sure that the case isn’t picking up dirt and grime.  But of course, the case for your AirPods doesn’t just keep them safe; it also charges them ready for their next use, so you’ll need to be careful not to damage the all-important electronics.

Here’s how you can make sure that your AirPods case is spick and span without damaging it, according to official advice from Apple.

Related: AirPods Review

Keep away from damaging substances

As in most cases, prevention is better than cure, so try not to get your AirPods dirty in the first place, particularly with potentially damaging substances such as water-based liquids of any kind, grease, or grit. If you avoid contact with these substances, your AirPods case should remain in generally good condition, but will still, of course, need to be routinely cleaned from time to time.

Use a microfibre cloth to clean your AirPods case

For most cleaning of tech equipment, it’s useful if you have a microfibre cloth ready to wipe over the surfaces. This material is ideal because it’s a delicate yet thorough way to remove particulate dirt from a surface, and it doesn’t necessarily require liquid to be applied.

You can rub all surfaces of the AirPods case with a dry microfibre cloth without having to fear for damaging delicate parts. Take care not to use anything sharp or abrasive, as this could damage the casing.

Apple AirPods

Use isopropyl alcohol for stubborn stains

It’s important not to apply water directly to the connections or to immerse the product in water, as this could seriously damage the case and render it useless for charging your AirPods back up again.

If there are some stubborn stains on the AirPods case, Apple advises that you use isopropyl alcohol rather than water. This can be bought as a cleaning product from many different suppliers.

If you must apply some of this product, it’s best just to dab a little on the microfibre cloth, and then carefully apply to the case rather than applying directly.

Clean the Lightning port with a soft-bristled brush

If there’s obvious dirt on the Lightning port, then Apple advises that you can clean this with a “clean, dry, soft-bristled brush”. For instance, you could employ an unused soft-bristled toothbrush to get into this tricky, difficult-to-reach spot.

Again, take care not to scrub the port too hard or you may degrade it.

Don’t put anything in the charging ports

The internal charging ports that recharge your AirPods are comprised of sensitive metal contacts. Apple advises that you simply don’t put anything in this, as you risk damaging the metal contacts and thereby ruining the charging functionality. Simply avoid getting dirt or any other substances into this part of the product, and it should continue to work as usual.

Alleged AMD Ryzen Threadripper 3980X Sporting 48-Cores Leaks

AMD’s existing 3rd generation Ryzen Threadripper HEDT CPUs is currently represented by three SKUs: the 3960X, the 3970X, and the 3990X. Now, details of what could possibly be a 3980X CPU has made its way to the internet, suggesting AMD may be planning to expand its HEDT lineup.

The details in question come in the form of a photo of the CPU-Z that was posted on Twitter and was subsequently picked up by the popular leakster site, Videocardz. According to the image, the alleged 3980X, codenamed castle peak, has a max TDP of 280W, and like the other three Threadripper processors, it’s based on AMD current 7nm Zen2 CPU architecture.

The takeaway here, however, is that the CPU is supposedly bearing a 48-cores, 96-threads layout. Within the 3rd generation Ryzen Threadripper hierarchy, that would, very obviously, put it squarely between the 3970X and 3990X. Moreover, it also looks like the processor’s base clock hovers around the 2.9GHz plateau, although it’s boost clock still remains a mystery.

There are, very naturally, questions about the authenticity of the image that even we find ourselves asking. For example, the name may state that the CPU is a 3980X, but if you look at the specification section, it shows the CPU still being listed as 3990X. On that note, CPU-Z essentially draws the CPU’s information from the specification section, meaning that the performance details we’re looking at are indeed the 3990X’s, and not the former.

With that said, do take this news with a generous dose of skepticism until some official statement from AMD is made.

Facebook: 93% Of Malaysians Share Their Purchases Via Messaging Apps

There’s no denying that the month of Ramadan and the COVID-19 pandemic make for an odd combination. Facebook has recently conducted a study on people’s daily routines during this time, with some interesting results. And it goes without saying that this year’s month of Ramadan makes things a little different compared to before.

One of the most interesting figures Facebook shared was that 93% of Malaysians share their purchases through messaging apps. Prior to actually making the purchase, 45% of people globally searched for information on deals on Facebook.

The Facebook research also shows that 72% of Malaysians did not know what exactly they wanted to buy, or where to buy them from, before shopping online. As a result of this, 58% of Malaysians learn about new products, and even brands, via social media. But on the flip side, 86% of Malaysians make comparisons online before buying something.

Navigating Ramadan with Facebook

With the COVID-19 pandemic, people are also looking for products and services that prioritise their health and wellbeing. The Facebook research shows that 65% of consumers are looking out for such messaging from brands and their products. 48% of consumers are also actually spending more on personal hygiene products.

And more generally, the pandemic has changed our spending behaviours too. About 52% of people are spending less on leisure activities, while 32% of people are taking their shopping activities online.

Microsoft Files Patent That Uses Brain Activity To Mine Cryptocurrency

Microsoft had reportedly filed an interesting patent, detailing ways to, of all things, mine cryptocurrency using certain bodily functions. The patent was filed back in March of this year, explaining how it would be possible to use brain activity or body heat and apply it to blockchain calculations.

Some particular examples Microsoft used was the viewing of advertisements or using certain internet service in order to stimulate brain activity. And then using said activity to further the mining process.

It doesn’t end there either; Microsoft’s patent goes on to suggest other biological functions, including “body fluid flow” and “organ activity and movement” to track other non-cryptocurrency tasks. Including social media, search engines, and email among other tasks.

As far as “unique” mining methods go, however, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that this isn’t the kookiest method to actually be suggested. And as with all patents, there’s no telling when or even if Microsoft’s concept will ever see become a reality. Also more often than not, the submission of such patents are just ways for tech giants to defend themselves against any potential copyright infringements.

iOS 13.5 Beta Provides Easier Way To Unlock iPhone While Wearing Face Mask

Apple has just rolled out new iOS 13.5 Beta for public distribution and it includes several features that are related to the on-going COVID-19 pandemic. One of them is face mask detection for Face ID that is paired together with a more streamlined way to unlock one’s iPhone.

With the new iOS 13.5 Beta, the iPhone would immediately present users with the passcode prompt when Face ID detects that the user is wearing a face mask. As a comparison, iPhone users currently have to let the Face ID detection timeout first before being presented with the passcode prompt.

In general, this means users that are wearing face mask able to unlock their iPhone much faster. The new iOS 13.5 Beta has also included an option called COVID-19 Exposure Notifications inside the Health section of the operating system’s Privacy settings.

The new option is the result of Apple and Google’s recent collaboration to deliver Bluetooth-based COVID-19 contact tracing capability within Android and iOS. This option basically allows users to opt-out from using this feature although apps that are built using this technology have not been released yet.

Since this beta release has been rolled out to the public, expect the finalized version of iOS 13.5 to be made available very soon. However, if you adventurous enough, you can check out Apple Beta Software Program’s official website to learn more on how you can install iOS beta releases into your iPhone.
