Bittrex Launches USD Fiat Trading

Bittrex Launches USD Fiat Trading

Bittrex has finally introduced fiat currency support. The US exchange, which was established in 2013, subsisted with tether as its USD surrogate until recently, before adding another stablecoin, TrueUSD, a couple of months ago. Around the same time, its CEO Bill Shihara revealed that the platform would be adding USD pairs and today they went live for corporate clients.

More Fiat, Less Tether

Bittrex, along with exchanges such as Binance and Upbit, has been gradually weaning itself away from tether, which for a long time was the only dollar-based hedge available. It has been speculated that the desire to list other stablecoins, and to eventually pivot to USD, was partially born out of a desire to be less reliant on the notoriously opaque tether. Whatever the reasoning, Bittrex has now secured the banking facilities necessary to enable fiat-crypto trading, and in Malta Binance is believed to be following suit.

Initially, the Seattle-based exchange will offer the USD paired against BTC, tether (USDT), and TrueUSD. This means that traders can swap between dollar-pegged tokens, which could be useful in the event of needing to send dollars to another exchange, or in the event of a stablecoin slipping from its dollar peg, as previously happened to TrueUSD upon news of its Binance listing.

Bittrex Launches USD Fiat Trading

Bittrex Signs with Signature

Bloomberg reports that Bittrex has inked a deal with New York’s Signature Bank. This will allow corporate clients in certain US states to make fiat deposits. While retail investors will be unable to benefit from this facility initially, Bittrex hopes to eventually roll the service out to all users who reside in states where it is licensed. As of today, May 31, corporate traders in Washington, California, New York, and Montana can make fiat deposits. Due to the restrictions in place, which will prevent the majority of Bittrex’ three million users from being able to participate, USD trading volume is likely to be low to begin with.

Bittrex Launches USD Fiat Trading“It’s been a long path [towards securing a banking agreement],” Bittrex Chief Executive Officer Bill Shihara told Bloomberg. “It’s not just about banks being able to trust Bittrex. It’s about banks being able to trust crypto in general. And I think it’s really showing that crypto is turning the corner in terms of mainstream acceptance.”

“They really do look and pore through the entire business,” Shihara said. “They want to make sure that we’ve got robust AML/KYC processes, that we’ve got the right controls on our finances. They do background checks and everything. They really look at our business soup to nuts.”

Will you use Bittrex’ banking facilities to deposit fiat currency once they’re available to retail investors? Let us know in the comments section below.

New Assassin’s Creed game apparently leaked by collectible keychain

Another year, another Assassin’s Creed game leak.

As spotted by French site JeuxVideoLive, an ancient Greek helmet keychain is marked with ‘Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey‘ branding, suggesting the name of an upcoming release in Ubisoft Montreal’s long-running action-adventure series.

Assassins Creed Odyssey keychain

Jason Schreier, a Kotaku reporter renowned in the gaming industry for getting reliable insider scoops, corroborated JeuxVideoLive‘s report, stating that Odyssey will be a sequel to last year’s Assassin’s Creed Origins and will take place in Ancient Greece.

According to Schreier’s sources, Odyssey will add the series’ first-ever dialogue options, taking a cue from RPGs like Mass Effect and Fallout. As well, Schreier reports that Odyssey will let users play as a male or female protagonist, although these appear to be new heroes, not Bayek and Aya from Origins.

Finally, Schreier states that Odyssey is slated for release during Ubisoft’s 2019 fiscal year, which ends on March 31st, 2019.

The Assassin’s Creed series used to be on an annualized release schedule, but Ubisoft took a year off after October 2015’s Assassin’s Creed Syndicate before launching Assassin’s Creed Origins in October 2017. According to Schreier, Odyssey will likely launch this fall, marking a return to the series’ yearly routine.

Interestingly, this is far from the first time an Assassin’s Creed game has been leaked. Almost every mainline game in the franchise has been prematurely revealed through merchandise, gameplay images or the like. Ubisoft hasn’t yet commented on the Odyssey reports, but given Schreier’s credibility and the franchise’s history of leaks, it’s likely that these latest rumblings will pan out.

In any case, Ubisoft will presumably reveal more about the next Assassin’s Creed game during its Electronics Entertainment Expo Presentation on June 11th.

Dell working on foldable dual-screen Windows 10 device: report

Surface Pro with LTE

Dell is reportedly working on a dual-screen Windows 10 device codenamed ‘Januss.’

According to a report by WinFuture, Dell appears to be working on a foldable touchscreen device. The device will allegedly run on an unreleased Qualcomm 850 ARM chipset.

This could lend credence to rumours that Microsoft is working on its own dual-screen device. Microsoft has worked closely with hardware partners in the past to create similar looking laptops. If Dell is working on a device like this, other OEM partners may be as well.

For some time, Microsoft was also rumoured to be making a dual-screen Surface device. The device sports a unique hinge and foldable design and resembles a surface with two screens.

Regardless, the rumours have inspired some quite interesting design concepts.

Last year, CEO Satya Nadella hinted that the next Microsoft phones might not look like phones at all. A device like those shown in the concept images could be an interesting smartphone-Windows hybrid device.

Microsoft has worked on a similar portable tablet device in the past. However, the device was canceled. That device resembled a more traditional tablet, but it took on a smaller eight inch form factor. As we’ve seen, the smaller tablet has largely disappeared in favour of larger phones.

Dell was also working on a more traditional mobile device called Stack. Unfortunately, Dell cancelled the device as well.

These new concepts show off what could be a potentially awesome device. However, like past attempts at a mobile Surface device, this one might never see a full release.

Uber might soon start using Waymo’s self-driving cars

Uber pickup

Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi stated during an interview at Recode’s Code Conference, that his company is discussing a deal with Waymo.

During a brief lawsuit in February of 2018 Waymo accused Uber of stealing trade secrets, with the information relating to how the company’s self-driving technology works.

Since then Khosrowshahi told Recode that the two companies relationship is getting better and that a Waymo and Uber partnership could be “a good thing.”

“That will be fundamental to the technology. If it’s shared, you want to have the highest utilization rates possible. Owning or being a part of the largest rideshare network on a global basis will enable you to get the highest utilization out of your autonomous cars,” said Khosrowshahi in an interview with Recode

This partnership could help Uber become the first place that a lot of people can utilize self-driving technology.

It isn’t looking like the average person is going to get to own or ride in an autonomous car any time soon.

If Uber starts offering self-driving rides through its app it could be the quickest way for the public to start utilizing the new technology.

YouTube most popular social media among teens in 2018

A recent study conducted by the Pew Research Center reveals that 85 percent of teens use YouTube — the most out of any social media.

Pew conducted the study on U.S. teens aged 13 to 17 from March 7th to April 10th, 2018.

Alongside YouTube, Instagram was the next highest, with the platforming being used by 72 percent of teens. Snapchat wasn’t far behind with 69 percent.

However, Facebook fell significantly from first place in a 2015 study. Now 51 percent of teens use the big blue social network, down 20 percent. Facebook also tends to be more popular among teens in lower-income households.

Additionally, 95 percent of teens have access to or own a smartphone and 45 percent were online almost constantly. In 2015, those numbers were 73 percent and 24 percent respectively.

Despite all this social media use, teens couldn’t agree on what impact — if any — social media had on their lives. 31 percent of teens agreed it had positive impact on their lives. Additionally almost half stated the connection to friends and family being the main reason.

24 percent said social media had a negative impact on them. The main reason behind that was bullying, but a number of teens said social media harmed relationships, reduced face-to-face contact and created an unrealistic view of other’s lives.

However, 45 percent of teens indicated social media had no positive or negative impact in their life.

Furthermore, 84 percent of teens have access to a game console and 90 percent say they play games of any kind. This includes computer, console and mobile games. 83 percent of girls and 97 percent of boys play video games.

While the study was conducted on U.S. teens, Canadian teens likely won’t differ much. For example, 94 percent of Canadians aged 15-34 said they owned a smartphone in a study conducted two years ago. Although it’s not quite the same age group, you can imagine how that number has grown.

PR: MoneyToken to Give out Loans in Stablecoin from Goldman Sachs-Backed Circle

MoneyToken to Give out Loans in Stablecoin from Goldman Sachs-Backed Circle

This is a paid press release, which contains forward looking statements, and should be treated as advertising or promotional material. Bitcoin.com does not endorse nor support this product/service. Bitcoin.com is not responsible for or liable for any content, accuracy or quality within the press release.

Following the announcement that Circle, a fintech startup backed by Goldman Sachs, plans to launch a stablecoin pegged to the U.S. dollar, the blockchain-based ecosystem MoneyToken has confirmed the listing of the stablecoin, Circle USDC, on its lending platform and decentralized exchange.

“USD-C is compliant and easy-to-cash-in alternative to Tether, and we expect a lot of requests from traditional and crypto business to add it as an option to our platform, I think that need was just in the air”
Alex Rass, co-founder of MoneyToken

MoneyToken is a worldwide blockchain-based financial services ecosystem, which provides opportunities for leveraging, borrowing and lending cryptocurrency assets. In early 2018 MoneyToken has announced strategic partnerships with several TOP-10 cryptocurrencies and was supported by founder of Bitcoin.com, Roger Ver, who has joined the MoneyToken’s advisory board.

USD-C is ERC-20 token based on the Ethereum network. Circle plans to offer USDC through Poloniex. It will also incorporate USDC in its social payments app and over-the-counter (OTC) trading desk.

Circle is a peer-to-peer payments technology company, which was founded in 2013 by internet entrepreneurs Jeremy Allaire and Sean Neville.

Circle has bought Poloniex exchange and was backed by $250,000,000 from Goldman Sachs, Bitmain, IDG Capital, Breyer Capital, General Catalyst, Accel, Digital Currency Group and Pantera, along with new investors Blockchain Capital and Tusk Ventures.

There is no direct connection between MoneyToken’s founder Alex Rass and Circle’s CEO Jeremy Allaire, but so quick reaction probably means some connections in between or with Goldman Sachs, that is interested to integrate their USDC coin into existing crypto ecosystem.

Xiaomi’s CEO shares Mi 8 camera samples ahead of the official launch

Few hours before today’s official Mi 8 and Mi 8 SE launch, Xiaomi’s CEO, Lei Jun, shared three sample photos showcasing the daylight and low-light performance of the cameras on the Mi 8, along with a bonus picture.

Talking about the rumored specs, the Mi 8 is said to have a 12- megapixel dual camera sensor. The cameras feature 1.4-micron pixels, OIS, dual-pixel autofocus and AI-powered portrait mode. The device also has a score of 105 in DxOMark’s rankings. The phone incorporates AI to identify scenes and apply the best settings, as well as features such as “Studio Lightning” portrait photography, obviously inspired by Apple.

Despite the compression in these pictures, as they are shared on Weibo, we can barely notice any noise in the low-light images and detail is well-preserved. The photos look sharp, the colors look punchy, the sky is blue, the daylight sky is captured quite accurately and the overall dynamic range appears to be perfect.

Besides the camera, the Mi 8 may feature a 6.21-inch AMOLED Full HD+ edge-to-edge display with a notch on top, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC under the hood, paired with 6GB of RAM, and up to 256GB onboard storage. There’s also a Mi 8 Explorer Edition that features similar specs to the Mi 8 but comes with several special features such as the 3D face unlock and a pressure-sensitive in-display fingerprint scanner. We will be having a lot more coverage for the Mi 8.

Google Pixel 3: Launch in October, Pixel 3 XL with a Notch and More…

While other smartphones have had their large portion of leaks, the Google Pixel 3 and 3 XL appeared to be left out for all this time. Well, that was until now, the Google Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL leaks have been spinning out by the spiders. The original Google Pixel was launch in October 2016, which is not even 2 years ago, with an idea to make a smartphone with first-party hardware and software.

These pictures of the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL screen protectors appeared earlier this week on Weibo, which were then picked up by SlashLeaks. If the photo is actually legitimate, we will see a Pixel 3 with wide display and a Pixel 3XL with a notch-based display. In any case, the displays will be tall and the bezels will be pushed to the bare minimum. The notch is certainly not unexpected since the first android P preview features notch support.

There are various ways android P handles the notch. Basically, it supports three notch versions that users can toggle – narrow, tall or wide. Wide notch is similar to the iPhone X one, while the narrow notch is similar to the essential phone one.

The other surprising aspect is the magnanimous bottom chin on the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3XL, especially the pixel 3 XL, which its predecessor did not consist of. The speaker cutout is already there on both phones and it seems that this is the main reason why. However, the larger bottom chin ruins the meaning of having a notch altogether.

Do you like the new design with a notch on pixel 3? Which would you like to buy Pixel 3 or Pixel 3XL? Tell us in comments below!

Netflix’s first comic ‘The Magic Order’ gets animated trailer

The Magic Order screenshot

Netflix released a trailer for its first comic book The Magic Order yesterday.

Mark Millar will  write the comic and Marvel artist Olivier Coipel will illustrate it. It’s a six-issue series and the first Millar has produced since Netflix acquired his company Millarworld last year.

The Magic Order revolves around five families of magicians. These families swore to protect earth from the forces of darkness and have done so unnoticed for generations. However, an enemy has begun hunting them and killing them off one by one.

Netflix also said it plans to develop films and shows off of other Millarworld creations. Millarworld has a number of properties, including Kick-Ass, Kingsman and Wanted.

While developing shows off of Millarworld properties is more in line with current Netflix practices, it’s interesting to see that the company is publishing a comic book. There is some speculation that Netflix is branching out in order to compete with Amazon, which purchased Netflix-style digital comics service Comixology in 2014.

Regardless of the streaming giant’s intentions, The Magic Order will be available June 13th with both print and digital options. However, Netflix probably won’t put the comic on its steaming service — at least, not until it’s adapted into a movie or show.

Atari VCS retro console pre-orders surpass $2 million in one day

Atari box

Pre-orders for Atari’s retro revival VCS console have exceeded $2 million USD on Indiegogo in a single day.

In fact, demand for the system was so high that the crowdfunding website crashed for a few hours.

The VCS’ funding goal was only set at $100,000, which has since been surpassed by over 2120 percent to reach $2,123,585 USD as of the time of writing.

The VCS is set to come pre-loaded with an ‘Atari Vault’ full of over 100 games, including AsteroidsBreakout and Centipede. It’s worth noting that digital PC retailer Steam sells a similar ‘Atari Vault’ collection of games for $10.99 CAD.

Where the VCS aims to differentiate itself from other retro-inspired consoles like Nintendo’s NES and SNES Classics, however, is through modern operating systems and connected home features.

According to the Indiegogo page, the VCS is built on an open source Linux OS that will allow users to customize the platform with their own software and apps. Additionally, Atari says it’s planning a “line of Atari VCS peripherals and accessories [that] will let you build your own Game and Entertainment-Powered “Connected Home.”

As well, Atari says built-in internet connectivity will enable users to download or stream “new and exclusive games” from both Atari and other developers, although a yet-to-be-detailed subscription service will be required for this feature.

Pre-orders for the system will run through June and come in a few different tiers. A $199 package (approximately $257.90 CAD) includes an all-black version of the console, while a $229 bundle (approximately $296.75 CAD) comes with the black system and a joystick.

A $299 ‘Collector’s Edition’ package (approximately $387.50 CAD) includes a VCS that pays tribute to the original Atari 2600 home console. The system features a front panel made of real wood, unique numbering on the back and comes with a Bluetooth-enabled, retro-styled Atari joystick controller.

Shipments are expected to begin in July 2019.

Withings to relaunch later this year, focus on preventive health

Nokia unsuccessful foray into the digital health space has officially come to close.

On Thursday, the company completed the sale of its digital health division to Éric Carreel, the former chairman and co-founder of consumer health brand Withings.

Nokia acquired Withings in 2016 for €170. The startup went on to form the core of Nokia’s digital health initiatives after it was rebranded as Nokia Digital Health. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, though as part of the deal, 200 employees are moving to Withings from Nokia. Carreel says he plans to officially relaunch Withings by the end of the year. He also added the the company’s new focus will be on preventive health.

“I am delighted to start working again with the brilliant teams that made the brand such a great success” said Carreel in a statement. “We have an exciting challenge ahead of us as we continue to push the boundaries of connected health.”

“We are still only just starting to discover what connected health can really bring to people,” He went on to add. “From now on we must concentrate our efforts on developing tools capable of advanced measurements and the associated services that can help prevent chronic health conditions. Today’s technologies allow us to imagine solutions that have the potential to benefit the lives of millions of people, and our ambition is to ensure that we, as Withings, lead the way with technological advances and intuitive designs.”

At one point, both Google and Samsung were reportedly involved in bidding to acquire Nokia Digital Health. However, according to multiple French publications (Withings was based in Issy-les-Moulineaux, France), the French government favoured a local buyer over international firms like Google.

Marvel Fresh Start

Marvel Entertainment has announced Marvel Battle Lines, a strategic free-to-play card game coming to Android and iOS in 2018.

In Battle Lines, players will be able to collect and build a deck of cards featuring hundreds of Marvel superheroes and supervillains, including Spider-Man, Iron Man, Captain America, the Hulk and Black Panther.

With these cards, players will be able to experience a single-player campaign featuring an original story mode penned by Alex Irvine, a fantasy and science-fiction writer behind a number of Iron Man and Daredevil comics.

Marvel says a player-versus-player mode will also be available.

Battle Lines is being developed by the Seoul, South Korea-based Nexon, PC and mobile game company best known for such titles as Maplestory, Vindictus and Dragon Nest.

Toronto residents spent over $400,000 on food during ‘Food is King’ Ritual promotion

The City of Toronto has published the details surrounding its ‘Food is King’ Ritual promotion.

Ritual is an app that local restaurants are able to sign up with in order to share their menu online. Along with listing menus, users are also able to order food and pay for it all within the app, letting them simply walk into the restaurant and pick up their meal.

The ‘Food is King’ promotion was an event that happened between February 20th to March 4th. The promo basically put a variety of meals on sale from restaurants on King Street in Toronto

The City and the Toronto Association of Business Improvement Areas partnered on this promotion to help promote 52 restaurants on King St during the King St pilot project.

During that campaign, users were provided $15 in food credits that they could then spend on local restaurants. While the event was happening, restaurants that participated saw a 707 percent increase in first-time ritual customers in the first week, and 1,062 percent increase in week two.

A grand total of 19,863 people used Ritual to buy a meal on King St and just under 7,000 customers utilized the app for the first time during the event.

According to the City, there was a $426,000 CAD increase in sales for the participating eateries. The City invested $164,470 and Ritual invested $100,000 to fund the $15 credit that was given out to users.

Users can download Ritual on iOS here and Google Play here.

In a new report, Canada’s telecom regulator is recommending the federal government impose levies on internet service providers and foreign streaming services to ensure the health of Canada’s media production industry.

Among its main recommendations: internet service providers should contribute to media funding in the same way that cable providers do.

In this manner, the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) hopes to spread the burden of payment for media supporting funds like the Canada Media Fund between cable and internet subscribers.

The CRTC noted, however, that it believes this would be a revenue neutral model – companies like Bell and Rogers which own cable, internet and broadcasting stakes would not be paying any more or less.

That said, it would affect those companies that solely provide internet, as well as consumers that have cut the cord and solely subscribe to internet.

Additionally, the CRTC is recommending to the Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and the Minister of Canadian Heritage that companies like Netflix and Spotify – foreign global companies that currently do not pay sales tax and do not pay into any media production fund – enter into “comprehensive and binding service agreements.”

Companies like Bell and Rogers would also enter into tailored agreements.

While the CRTC hasn’t fleshed out the details of what an agreement with Netflix would look like, the Commission noted that there would be certain baseline agreements, and that each agreement would be customized to the industry player.

Baseline elements include:

• Supporting the promotion or discoverability of content by Canadian creators
• Providing content of various types, such as news, drama, programming for official language minority communities or in indigenous languages, or accessible programming (e.g. through closed captioning and described video)
• Facilitating the prominent placement of Canadian content, it s export and/or the attribution of Canadian sources
• Ensuring that content is of a high quality that meets Canadian standards in journalism, advertising etc.
• Protecting the privacy of Canadians and their data
• Providing more traditional direct financial contributions

More to come…

University of Guelph student fined for using Apple Watch while driving

Apple Watch Series 3 on wrist

A student from the University of Guelph has been fined $400 for looking at her Apple Watch while driving.

Victoria Ambrose was driving her car on the university campus and was pulled over for interacting with her Apple Watch at a stoplight.

She was stopped at a light on South Ring Rd according to Guelph Today, when a campus police officer pulled up beside her. The officer is said to have noticed the glow from her watch and then saw that she was paying attention to it instead of progressing through the light as it turned green.

She was pulled over and charged with using a hand-held communication device while driving. This charge is based on the Highway Traffic Act 78.1, which prohibits anyone from driving a vehicle while holding or using a handheld wireless communication device.

Ambrose argued that she was just checking the time on her watch, which she says she needed to tap the screen in order to do — despite the fact that the Apple Watch includes a raise to wake feature.

Justice of the Peace Lloyd Phillipps, the judge on the case, wrote in his ruling that “despite the Apple Watch being smaller than a cellular phone, on the evidence, it is a communication device capable of receiving and transmitting electronic data.”

There’s no denying that an Apple Watch can be used similarly to a cell phone, and this case sets an interesting precedent for all smartwatches and what people should do with them while driving. According to this case, it seems like users are supposed to remove their smartwatch while driving.

It’s possible that at some point Apple could release an update that adds a ‘Do Not disturb While Driving’ feature to the wearable.

Ambrose has 90 days to pay her fine.

Samsung to update Canadian Galaxy S7 and S7 edge smartphones to Android Oreo on June 11

Canadian Galaxy S7 and S7 edge owners won’t have to wait much longer to get Android Oreo on their devices, according to the South Korean phone-maker.

Samsung recently updated its community forums software schedule to notify users of upcoming updates to the Galaxy S7 and 2017’s Galaxy A5, both of which the company plans to upgrade to Android 8.0 on June 11th. Additionally, the company says it will release maintenance updates to the S9/S9+ and A8 on June 4th and June 8th, respectively.

This is the same Oreo update Samsung has had issues with in the past. Earlier this month, Samsung halted the rollout of Oreo to the S7 and S7 edge due to a boot loop issue that wasn’t spotted in the company’s Q&A testing. Here’s hoping the majority of bugs have been addressed this time around.

Complete List of 93 Crypto Ratings

On Tuesday, May 29, Weiss Ratings made public its complete list of 93 cryptocurrencies rated by the company. The American independent rating agency, founded in 1971, has been rating approximately 55,000 institutions and investments such as stocks, ETFs, mutual funds, insurance companies, banks, credit unions, and cryptocurrencies.

Weiss Ratings Publishes Complete List of 93 Cryptocurrency Ratings

Compiled on Friday, the list shows an overall rating of B- for BTC and C- for BCH. It can be obtained by signing up with an email address on the company’s website until June 4.

Weiss Ratings Publishes Complete List of 93 Cryptocurrency RatingsNo cryptocurrency on the list has received an A or a B+ rating. Overall, fourteen coins were rated B or B-. ADA, DCR, EOS were rated B, whereas BTC, ETH, BTS, IOTA, ONT, NEO, XRP, STEEM, TRX, XLM, and ZIL were rated B-.

54 cryptocurrencies were rated either C, C+ or C-. They include BCH, DASH, DOGE, ETC, LSK, LTC, XMR, XEM, QTUM, SC, STRAT, UBQ, VEN, WAVES, and ZEC.

Weiss Cryptocurrency Ratings

The company started publishing crypto ratings on January 24 with the launch of “Weiss Cryptocurrency Ratings” that are “based on a groundbreaking model that analyzes thousands of data points on each coin’s technology, usage, and trading patterns,” the company described.

Weiss Ratings Publishes Complete List of 93 Cryptocurrency Ratings

At launch, Weiss Ratings gave BTC a C+, citing that “Bitcoin (rated C+) gets excellent scores for security and widespread adoption. But it is encountering major network bottlenecks, causing delays and high transactions costs. Despite intense ongoing efforts that are achieving some initial success, Bitcoin has no immediate mechanism for promptly upgrading its software code.”

Weiss Ratings Publishes Complete List of 93 Cryptocurrency Ratings“Investors should interpret the Weiss Cryptocurrency grade scale with these terms,” the company explained. “A = excellent; B = good; C = fair; D = weak; [and] E = very weak.” In addition, Weiss Ratings wrote, “A plus or minus sign indicates the upper third or lower third of a grade range, respectively. In addition, an F grade is assigned to cryptocurrencies that have failed or are subject to credible allegations of fraud.” The company’s list of 93 crypto ratings does not contain any coin with an F rating.

Under its system, Weiss Ratings elaborated:

Cryptocurrencies do not have to achieve an A grade to merit interest by investors. A ‘B’ or even ‘B-‘ also qualify as the investment rating equivalent to ‘buy.’ At the same time, investors should not be overly alarmed by a ‘C’ rating. It is a passing grade; and for investors, implies the equivalent of ‘hold.’

Amazon Echo has a new batch of skills for Father’s Day

Amazon Echo front

Amazon has recently added a few new skills to Alexa that are Father’s Day related — or at least skills that dads might enjoy.

Amazon recommends creating a custom skill using its new blueprint editor.  There is even a blueprint that can tell your dad how much you care. An example of this is whenever dad asks Alexa “who’s the best dad in the world?” it can reply with something like “I just compared all the Dads in the world and concluded you’re the best.”

Besides creating a custom response for dad, there are some more skills that seem like they would appeal to fathers. Users can Ask Alexa for cocktail recipes using highly rated bartender skill.

There are also some skills that have been out for a while that Amazon thinks are perfect for dads. These skills are for cooking and they’re called Meat Thermometer and Flame Boss.

H370 Mining Master

Bitcoin in Brief Thursday: Asus Creates 20 GPU Mining MotherboardAsus (TWSE: 2357), the Taiwanese computer hardware manufacturer, has announced a new motherboard that increases density with support for up to 20 graphics cards, designed specifically for crypto miners. The H370 Mining Master greatly replaces its predecessor’s x1 slots with banks of vertical PCIe-over-USB ports that let riser cables plug directly into the motherboard.

The company explains that: “Mining is a numbers game; it’s only worthwhile if the value of the cryptocurrency you generate exceeds the cost of producing it. Increasing the number of graphics cards per node is a great way to stack the deck in your favor.” The motherboard includes several more mining-enhancing features including a suite of diagnostic features designed to make a rig easier to manage. Chief among them is GPU State Detection, which scans the system at boot and indicates whether each riser port is empty, connected to a functional graphics card, or whether it’s experiencing problems. It will be unveiled at Computex 2018 in Taipei, June 5-9.

Real Estate Entrepreneur Buys Bittrade

Singaporean property entrepreneur Eric Cheng has announced the acquisition of two Japanese companies for S$67 million, giving him a 100% controlling stake in FX Trade Financial and its affiliate Bittrade. Bittrade is one of only sixteen Japanese FSA-regulated cryptocurrency trading platforms. Speaking on the acquisition, Cheng commented: “The cryptocurrency industry is growing exponentially. Against this backdrop, the key to capturing the rising demand is having a well-regulated and licensed outfit. With this Japanese FSA-licensed platform, I will work closely with the regulators to scale this platform globally.”

Ripple Loving Bank Hackers

Bitcoin in Brief Thursday: Asus Creates 20-GPU Mining MotherboardHackers and ransomware cyber criminals usually prefer privacy coins such as monero, or just BTC to avoid having to explain too much about the crypto markets to their victims. But a new group, possibly from Russia, has been more successful with Ripple’s XRP. According to a report from Canada, an address with about $5 million in XRP is controlled by hackers who recently attacked two banks.

Bank of Montreal (BMO) and Simplii Financial revealed personal information about 90,000 clients of the two banks was being held hostage for $1 million, to be paid in XRP. The hackers, using a Russian email service, explained that the banks’ lack of education security has enabled the situation. “They were giving too much permission to half-authenticated accounts which enabled us to grab all this information,” they said, adding that the system “was not checking if a password was valid until the security questions were input correctly.”

$30 Million Gumi Cryptos

Gumi Cryptos is a new $30 million investment fund meant to help crypto ventures crack the Japanese market. It is led by Hironao Kunimitsu, founder and CEO of Tokyo-based mobile gamer publisher Gumi, and Miko Matsumura, founder of U.S.-based exchange Evercoin.

“We’ll be bringing startups from outside of Japan to the Japanese market,” Matsumura told Gamesbeat. “We like early stage. We invest in equity or tokens. We like financial services. We like game technologies, and we believe there is a strong connection between gaming and crypto.” He added that “Having advised top global cryptocurrency startups alongside some of the best investors in the world, I’ve come to realize that all of them struggle to break into Japan, the largest cryptocurrency market in the world. I’m excited to join Gumi and their well-respected network in Japan.”

James Rodriguez Coin

Bitcoin in Brief Thursday: Asus Creates 20 GPU Mining MotherboardColombian soccer star James Rodriguez, currently attacking midfielder for Bayern Munich Football Club, has announced he decided to create a new coin for fans to capitalize on his brand.
