Android To Have Fast Share, An AirDrop-esque File Sharing Method

Among the sea of differences between iOS and Android is the former’s AirDrop. It’s quite a straightforward method of sending files from one iOS device to another. It looks like Google is working on something similar for Android and Chromebooks, and is simply called Fast Share.

9to5Google managed to enable Fast Share on Android Q with its Google Pixel 3 XL. And from the screenshots shared, they work in a pretty similar way as well – enabling it makes your device visible to others, that can then send files, or even text to you.

The underlying tech that makes Fast Share possible is actually a combination of Bluetooth and WiFi, like iOS’ AirDrop. You can also set a list of devices under “Preferred Visibility” which allows them to send files to you even when you have Fast Share turned off.

9to5Google also states that this is a Google Play Services feature, so it likely won’t be an Android Q exclusive. That said, there is no word as to when the feature will officially launch.

Bitcoin Cash Register Surpasses 10,000 Installs and BCH is Coming to Brave in Weekly Video Update

Bitcoin Cash Register has surpassed 10,000 installs on the Google Play Store, live streaming platform Twitch reinstates cryptocurrency payments and BCH is coming to the Brave web browser. Watch these and other developments discussed in this week’s video update on Bitcoin.com’s Youtube channel.

Also Read: Over 22,000 Traders Have Now Signed up to Local.Bitcoin.com

Twitch Reenables Cryptocurrency Payments

Twitch is a video streaming platform owned by Amazon with more than 15 million unique daily visitors who mainly use it for watching live gaming and esports. Earlier this year, the website stopped accepting cryptocurrency payments by removing support for Bitpay. However, recently Twitch users have reported that the option to pay with bitcoin cash (BCH) and bitcoin core (BTC) is available once again.

Speaking about Bitpay, the leading cryptocurrency payment processor has launched a new directory for anyone who is looking for recommended places to spend their BCH or BTC. The directory features a variety of retailers, arranged by categories such as electronics and fashion. The entertainment and gaming section still doesn’t mention that Twitch is back, but does cover other online play options such as Chess.com.

In addition to enabling businesses to accept crypto payments, Bitpay also empowers charities to accept donations in digital assets. Recently the Tony Hawk Foundation announced it is now accepting cryptocurrencies from supporters through Bitpay.

BCH is Coming Soon to Brave Browser

Brendan Eich is creator of the Javascript programming language, co-founder of Mozilla and Firefox and current CEO of Brave Software. Eich revealed on Twitter that bitcoin cash (BCH) is coming soon to the Brave browser as an additional funding option in version 0.68 of the app. Brave is an open-source web browser based on Chromium that blocks ads by default but allows users to support the sites they visit with cryptocurrency.

The HTC Exodus 1 phone will also feature Brave as the default browser in its upcoming release. Bitcoin.com CEO Roger Ver commented: “I think I may have to switch my phone to an HTC phone once all of this is out.”

Bitcoin Cash Register Surpasses 10,000 Installs

Bitcoin Cash Register is a simple point-of-sale (PoS) app from Bitcoin.com that allows any business to accept BCH payments at any retail location. Merchants can choose from over 150 fiat currencies, and cash out customers wanting to pay in BCH in a non-custodial manner, without any registration. The app is available both for iOS and Android devices and has surpassed 10,000 installs on the Google Play Store.

The weekly video update also covered a couple of upcoming community events. The newest Bitcoin Cash Conference is coming to North Queensland, Australia, on Sept. 4 – 5. And Anarchovegas is coming up this July 20 – 21 in Las Vegas, Nevada, promoting individualism and freedom, with a special benefit to support Ross Ulbricht.

HiSense Malaysia Database Found To Be Unsecured; Leaves Customer Details At Risk

HiSense has found itself in hot water today. It was discovered that the China-based appliance manufacturer’s Malaysian office had failed to properly secure its customer details that were submitted on its warranty registration page.

News of the unsecured page first reached the ears of local tech site Pokde.NET, who in turn had received a link that contained 1852 entries. All belonging to HiSense customers who had uploaded their warranty registration and claims for the brand’s products. To make matters worse, the page is apparently still unsecured, as the last warranty registration was conducted just one week ago.

Pokde.NET surmises that the security issue stems from the Cform plugin flaw that leaves the page open to exploitation. Without the need for any special privileges and exposing all the data inside.

At the time of writing, HiSense Malaysia still had not responded to Pokde.NET’s query.

Zoe Saldana Discusses If We’ll See Gamora in Guardians of the Galaxy 3

In one of the closing scenes of Avengers: Endgame, we see Peter Quill AKA Star-Lord using his computer to search for Gamora. This happens a quick second before Thor gets onboard the spaceship and the both of them start comedically bickering. The fate of Gamora has been a popular topic of discussion since Endgame. While the prime timeline Gamora was murdered by Thanos in Avengers: Infinity Stone in his effort to retrieve the soul stone, Endgame introduced the alternate (past) timeline Gamora. Here we see Gamora evil, carrying out Thanos’ orders. However, after much convincing from the prime timeline Nebula, Gamora switches side. She abandons Thanos’ army to fight alongside the good. But, when Tony puts on the Infinity Gauntlet and snaps his fingers, we see every single member of Thanos’ army turn to dust.

Does this mean that alternate timeline Gamora got dusted too? Well, one can argue that Iron Man couldn’t have possibly known Gamora had switched sides to the good before snapping his fingers. But I think most of us are in assumption that alternate timeline Gamora is indeed still alive. During a panel at ACE Comic Con in Seattle this weekend, Zoe Saldana, who plays Gamora in the MCU gave us some clarification when asked what she’d like to see for Gamora in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3.

“It all depends. The technical answer is it all depends on what Marvel and James Gunn desire to do with the Guardians and with Gamora’s fate. I would eventually, there’s a part of me that wants her to go back, find her way back to the Guardians but there’s also a part of me that wants to explore a bad Gamora. I’ve never seen that and she’s, you know, she’s considered the most lethal assassin, the most lethal woman in the galaxy so I would want to see what that wrath looks like also because it would just give me layers to sort of work on. But yeah, I want her to get back to the Guardians.”

Guardians of the Galaxy 3

While it looks like Saldana did not give away any details regarding the exact future of the character, she did imply that the character is indeed still alive. A movie focused on evil Gamora being a badass killer? Sign me up!

Despite Rerelease Endgame Will Still Not Beat Avatar at the Box Office

The final chapter of the Infinity Saga, Avengers: Endgame was rereleased on the 29th of June to mixed reactions. While some fans clamoured to revisit the movie on the silver screen one more time, others called it nothing but a cheap stunt to beat James Cameron’s Avatar‘s global box office record. Of course, the folks at Marvel Studios will probably tell you that it’s nothing more than a celebration and also a great way to build anticipation for the upcoming Spider-Man: Far From Homewhich is also the final chapter of phase three of the MCU.

Well, whatever the reason for the rerelease, it looks like Avengers: Endgame will still not beat Avatar‘s $US 2.788 billion record at the global box office. In North America, Endgame raked in a fine $US 5.5 million this past weekend, which is a massive rise from last weekend’s $US 1.9 million. This puts Endgame‘s North American box office at $US 841.3 million. In North America, Star Wars: The Force Awakens still holds the top stop with a staggering $US 936.7 million.

Outside of North America, the film made a rather disappointing $US 2.3 million, putting its total global box office collection at $US 2.761 billion. That number, as insanely high as it is, is still $US 27 million short of Avatar‘s recordI would say best case scenario, it will hit the $US 2.776 mark by the end of its storied run.

While people love Avengers: Endgame and it definitely calls for multiple viewings, it looks like most film fans have got their eyes locked on other films such as Annabelle Comes Homewhich made over $US 76 million at the global box office this past weekend. There’s also Spider-Man: Far From Home and The Lion King heading to cinemas in the coming weeks. After all, it’s not like the Endgame rerelease comes with any new footage within the movie itself.

Pokémon Sword And Shield Producer Responds To Gamer Backlash; Game Still Will Not Include All Pokémon

Back in E3, The Pokémon Company announced more details about Pokémon Sword and Shield. Said details included the fact that not all Pokémon can be transferred to the new game. Unsurprisingly, this lead to quite the reaction from gamers of a franchise known for its “Gotta catch ’em all” slogan.

In response, producer Junichi Masuda released a statement on the official Pokémon website. That said, there’s nothing new here. Masuda is basically doubling down on not including every Pokémon into the 8th generation games.

For what it’s worth, he does say that the Pokémon that are not included this time may still return in future games. Either way, Pokémon Sword and Shield will be the first time in the series where trainers really can’t catch ’em all.

In the place of the missing critters, Pokémon Sword and Shield will instead feature new critters in the equally new Galar region. Whether or not they will make up for those that did not make the cut, only their trainers will know.

Pocket Pills takes the hassle out of going to the pharmacy [App of the week]

If you’re someone who has a recurring prescription, Canadian company Pocket Pills streamlines the process of getting your medication

The company sends you all of your medication separated by dose in small packages every month.

Individuals pay a seven dollar fee per order and then the company packages their pills and other medication and sends them. Pocket Pills even handles refills and ships them to you before your existing medication runs out.

If you need to order a medication that’s on a take-as-needed basis, then Pocket Pills ships it in a standard pill bottle.

When the medication arrives, each bag is labelled per dose, meaning that if you’re supposed to take three pills in the morning and two at night, each bag has all the medicine you’re supposed to take at a single time.

The company ships these bags in a roll to make it easy to know what to take next. Think of a roll of tickets, but instead of tickets, each section of the rolls is a little pocket-sized bag of pills.

Once the medication is shipped, you can track it online or through the app.

The company has just launched in Ontario, so it covers 24 million Canadians across the Yukon, North West Territories, Alberta, British Columbia and Ontario.

Pocket Pills has even included a way to make sure patients still get to talk to a pharmacist. You can speak to a pharmacist online through the services chat section, via phone or email. The professionals are available to talk any time between 8:30am and 6:00pm PT/11:30am and 9:00pm ET.

Sign up process

When you sign up for Pocket Pills, the company asks you for some basic information like your name, age, address, allergies, a contact number and email. Plus your credit card and insurance information.

To add your insurance information the company has added an option to take an and upload an image of your card when you sign up to make this process as easy as possible.

If your insurance provider reimburses you after you send them receipts, don’t worry, one comes with every shipment.

You can download Pocket Pills for free on iOS and Android. If you’re interested in the service you can also look up its medications prices.

Toronto-made ‘Worse Than Death’ brings the fright this Canada Day [Game of the Week]

Worse Than Death

I’ve never been one for horror — whether games or movies — but I can still appreciate a good creepy tale. That’s precisely what Canadian-made Worse Than Death provides: an acceptable level of creepy horror wrapped up in an action-adventure game set at a small town’s high school reunion.

From Toronto-based creators Benjamin and Nancy Rivers, Worse Than Death kicks things off with some intrigue to hook you, before fun gameplay and puzzle solving carries you along. I won’t write much about the story itself to avoid spoilers, but suffice it to say, I was hooked within minutes.

In just the opening scenes, the game sets up a mysterious background, a creepy setting and a lot of questions. From there, the game builds tension as it introduces players to the world, the characters and, eventually, the horror.

Simple controls

As for gameplay, Worse Than Death keeps things simple. Players can tap on either side of the screen to walk around the world, double tap to run, and press on icons to interact with elements. The game utilizes touch really well, letting players interact with items like shoebox lids or keypads in ways that a controller wouldn’t be able to achieve.

However, the controls can also be a bit of a nuisance at times. One particular aggravation I had was when fleeing the game’s monster. The Rivers set up Worse Than Death so that you don’t actually see the monster. That takes all the fun out of the horror!

The gameplay facilitates this by having players run when the beast is near, and duck into shadowy alcoves to avoid getting caught. In my time with the game, I found the window for when you could interact with elements by tapping the icon was narrow, and I would often overshoot the alcove and not be able to enter it, despite my character standing in front of it, because I was no longer in the interaction zone.

Ultimately, it’s a small complaint, and the game was excellent beyond that. Puzzles were particularly satisfying, as Worse Than Death lays clues out in a way that makes sense and makes players feel accomplished when they solve them.

Sound design and hand-drawn art

Worse Than Death’s sound design is also top notch. It recommends players use headphones when enjoying the game, and I second that — the headphones add a much more atmospheric and intense experience when playing the game. Intense encounters with the monster are much more frightening when you can hear it moving in the distance.

Another part of Worse Than Death that stands out is its artwork. I had an opportunity to sit down with Ben Rivers back in May, where he told me about how he created the game. While most of the gameplay revolves around pixel art graphics, cutscenes, dialogue and puzzles are all hand-drawn. Rivers used Procreate, an iPad Pro and an Apple Pencil to draw some 150 pieces used throughout the game.

Fittingly, this Canadian game is launching on iOS on July 1st, 2019. It will be available for $5.49. Additionally, Worse Than Death will come to Steam, PS4 and the Nintendo Switch later this year. You can also try out Home, another horror adventure game from the Rivers.

5 Spider-Man Villains That Need to Be in the Marvel Cinematic Universe

With the recent news of Venom most likely making his way into the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), it seems that Disney’s Marvel is determined to expand Spidey’s rogues’ gallery. We already have Vulture, a potential Scorpion on the way and maybe even Mysterio. Even as a teenage kid, Peter Parker has his work cut out for him. It certainly doesn’t help that with Tony Stark gone, the world will soon be looking to Spider-Man to step up and be Iron Man’s successor. If I could borrow the advice of an old sage, that at this point has probably been quoted Ad nauseum, with great power comes great responsibility.

In spite of my previous reservations for Tom Holland as the MCU’s Spider-Man, I’m still rooting for the kid to succeed and grow. And if I could get heady for a moment, villains can play an immensely important role in shaping and growing our heroes through Hegelian dialectics. When our hero and his beliefs (the thesis) clashes with an opposing force (an antithesis) it often results with the hero learning a higher truth from the conflict (a synthesis). Over the years, Spidey’s foes have served to construct, deconstruct and perhaps the character. So much so that he’d be a bit lost without them.

All this excitement with regards to new villains entering into the MCU has got us thinking though: Are there other iconic Spider-Man villains we need to see future films? Yes and here are some of the very best of them.

1. Black Cat

At first glance, you may be fooled in thinking Black Cat a mere ripoff of her more popular DC counterpart, Catwoman. I mean both of them are master cat burglars and have amazing acrobatic skills. Nonetheless, Black Cat is a complex and fascinating character in her own right. Before she donned her costume, she was the daughter of a travelling salesman, who was also secretly a master thief. In her freshman year of college, Felicia was sexually assaulted and raped by her boyfriend Ryan.

The traumatic incident left a mark on her, driving her to become a skilled acrobatic and deadly fighter. She would show the world that she was no victim, that this cat had claws. Though she was unable to exact her vengeance upon Ryan seeing that he died of drunk driving, she still managed to put her skills to good use a burglar. In time her expertise and wealth grew along with her hatred for men. That was until she met Spider-Man.

In spite of the two butting heads at first, not unlike Batman and Catwoman, there is an undeniable connection between the two. She is drawn to the Spidey’s big heart and lone wolf personality while Peter fights in turn for her redemption seeing the good in her. Throughout the years, we’ve seen the two team up, hook up and go against one another. It would seem that their two fates would be forever intertwined, even with Mary Jane in the picture. There’s so much depth to her character with her fluctuating from villain to hero to anti-hero. She’s just the kind of villain we need in the MCU  to develop Spider-Man’s love life and would inject some compelling drama into the mix.

2. Electro

Maxwell Dillon was once your ordinary, mild mannered line repairman until a lightning strike triggered his mutagenic powers. Dillon had the power to manipulate electricity, capable of both absorbing and discharging the energy from his very body. Dillon took up the name of Electro and would later go on to become of one of Spidey’s most memorable enemies. Look, I’ll level with you. Electro isn’t exactly the top tier if you know what I mean. He’s certainly isn’t anything to joke about with regards to his powers (though that lightning helmet he had was plenty to clown on).

Nonetheless, he just isn’t a Thanos-level threat to Peter Parker…which is exactly why we need him on this list. In spite of his lesser pedigree, the man is a necessary stumbling block to Peter’s journey into truly becoming Spider-Man. In the past, the public has confused Electro with Spider-Man and have essentially attributed all of Dillon’s crimes to the hero.

Spider-Man isn’t always going to face a world ending threat or have his darkest hour with every villain he meets. That’s just not practical to storytelling. We need the villains like Electro to remind Spider-Man of why he wears the suit. It’s not about power or prestige, it’s about doing the right thing. I think a film in which Electro frames Spider-Man in an effort to discredit the hero of all the good work he’s done would be a great idea. It could even have a comedic tone but also carry some serious growth. When the chips are down and the ego’s gone, will Spider-Man step up and still fight the good fight? A question definitely worth exploring.

3. Doctor Octopus

In another life, perhaps Dr Otto Octavius and Peter Parker would have been the very best of friends. Both share a keen mind for the sciences and a love for technology. Sadly, a lab accident had rendered the doctor with irreversible brain damage. As a result of it, he developed a new megalomaniacal persona with delusions of grandeur. Octavius then repurposed his four-armed robotic tentacles, once used to furthering scientific developments, for his own criminal ends.

He would rechristen himself Doctor Octopus (or Doc Ock for short). In the past, a lot of villains have claimed to have “murdered” or “destroyed” Spider-Man but no one safe for Octavius could boast of taking over Spidey’s life. Quite literally take over his body, his identity and memories! In the comics of 2012’s Amazing Spider-Man #698, we see a dying Doc Ock switch minds with one Peter Parker, leaving Peter’s consciousness in his dying body. This resulted in Peter’s consciousness dying. I mean Otto did from then on swear to do better and went on to become Superior Spider-Man but still that’s pretty messed up!

As much as Doc Ock touts himself to be a criminal mastermind, he really is just a tragic mental patient. Maybe that’s why in the past, Spidey has held back against the man. He’s Spidey’s greatest moral test. Can he truly brand an insane man as evil? How much of Doctor Octopus was already within Otto before the accident? That’s the beauty of a villain with true pathos. Somewhere deep down, we care for them and maybe even want the best for them. Someone looking for a moment of clarity in life, something to give them meaning and purpose. Though I wouldn’t expect Marvel Studios to recreate the Superior Spider-Man storyline, I definitely would like to see Peter’s more idealistic nature when confronting Doc Ock.

4. Kraven the Hunter

If Bane is the man who broke the Bat, then Kraven is the one who snapped the Spider’s web! Sergei Kravinoff is one of Marvel’s greatest marksmans, easily in the same league with folks like Hawkeye. A man obsessed with big game hunting and becoming the greatest hunter alive. That obsession leads him to pursue his greatest prey yet: Spider-Man. In the legendary comic story arc Kraven’s Last Hunt, we see the hunter best Spider-Man in a hunt with the hunter shooting Spidey before burying alive in a grave.

That’s some cold blooded stuff right there. To add insult to injury, the man created his own Spider-Man costume. Masquerading as Spider-Man, he began his own crusade against crime with far more violent tactics in comparison to that our everyone’s friendly neighbourhood vigilante. Honestly, What is it with Spidey’s villains assuming the man’s identity?

Wanna know the funny part of it all? When Spidey got out off the grave and confronted Kraven, the hunter wasn’t even mad! He did all this just to make some strange point before killing himself! Seriously, New York City needs an Arkham Asylum for all these loons running around. The man uses chemicals, narcotics and even magical potions to enhance his ability to hunt.

Well at least the nut is in tip top form. Though there are some villains who have arguably done much worse to Spidey, there’s little doubt that Kraven’s actions have left a scar on the Spider. One that will never fully be healed. He is the man to teach Peter Parker a very important lesson in life: The bigger you get, the bigger a target gets painted on your back. Something a young and inexperienced Peter Parker should learn.

5. Green Goblin

Now we honestly couldn’t have a list of Spidey’s top foes and not include Mr Norman Osborn aka the Green Goblin. From the very first time I saw Wilem Dafoe’s performance as Green Goblin, I knew that the villain was something special. That he would go on to be one of the greatest villains in the genre! Imagine if Tony Stark had lost his mind and believed himself some sort of god among men. That’s pretty much Osborn’s whole deal.

When it comes to Spider-Man mythos he is undoubtedly the most influential enemy that the wallcrawler has ever encountered. In the past, the man has done everything from putting Aunt May in the hospital as seen in 2002’s Spider-Man to murdering Gwen Stacy in the comics to torturing Peter in an effort to turn Spider-Man into another Green Goblin! Holy doghist, this guy is bad news for Peter.

The most interesting aspect of the characters has got to be how Osborn alternates between being a suave, intelligent industrialist and a cackling madman. There’s a sort of agreement struck between the two personas with regards to when each of them can take over. There’s an amazing panel in the Siege comic book run when Norman Osborn’s Iron Patriot mask is taken off, revealing a crazed, green face man beneath the shiny exterior. No matter how far he runs and no matter how much he tries to hide it, Norman is the Green Goblin.

Much like how Peter Parker will always be Spider-Man. He is the monster that stalks Peter’s waking dreams. A sick and twisted parody of his mentor and father figure. It would be amazing to see how Tom Holland’s Spider-Man will face off against a man like Norman Osborn. Every bit his better and the very worst of his rogues gallery. Long live the Goblin!

Windows 10 USB-C Bug Makes Shutting Down PCs A Slow Process

If you noticed that your PC has been taking an unusually long time to shut down, this may be the reason why. Depending on the version of Windows 10 you’re running, a USB-C bug is reportedly hampering the shut down process by up to a whole minute.

A Microsoft USB blog post states that a bug in the USB-C Connector System Software Interface (UCSI) of Windows 10 version 1809 is behind this. The bug in question can not only cause up to a one minute delay in the shutdown process, but the sleep process as well.

The bug doesn’t seem to affect any other aspect of your PC’s performance. Either way, Microsoft addressed the issue with Update 1903, also known as the May 2019 update.

If you’ve yet to update Windows 10, this is another reason to do so, in addition to a number of other issues previously reported. Microsoft also gave Windows 10 the ability to automatically roll back faulty updates, so there shouldn’t be anything holding you back from updating.
