Disney Plus has made waves in the streaming industry since it launched at the end of last year. Now, it’s offering one of the most impressive entertainment libraries going, as well as documentaries and much more. Here are the best things to watch on Disney Plus.

Some huge series and film franchises are available on Disney Plus, with the likes of Star Wars, Marvel National Geographic and many more all available on the platform. It can be an overwhelming selection but the Trusted Reviews team have picked out some undoubted highlights. They’re a great place to start.

1. Hamilton (July 3 onwards)

Lin Manuel-Miranda’s Broadway musical is set to make a real impact on Disney Plus. The renowned stage show has impressed critics across the board.

The show mixes modern and classic themes, using a diverse cast to tell the stories of America’s founding fathers.

The New York Times said: “Casting Black and Latino actors as the founding fathers and their allies… was much more than a gesture of inclusiveness. (Jonathan Groff channels the essential, irreducible whiteness of King George III.) The show’s argument, woven through songs that brilliantly synthesized hip-hop, show tunes and every flavor of pop, was that American history is an open book. Any of us should be able to write ourselves into it.”

2. Frozen 2 (July 3 onwards)

Say what you want about the Frozen series – it’s popular for a reason. As if one movie full of catchy/rage inducing songs wasn’t enough, last year Disney saw fit to grace us with a long-awaited sequel, one that is now also available to stream on Disney Plus.

While there’s a case to made that Frozen 2 isn’t quite as spectacular as its predecessor, the film still feels like time well spent with a group of friends you haven’t seen in years. Plus, if nothing else, Kristoff’s power ballad is still a sight to behold.

3. The Mandalorian

It’s not as bang up-to-date as the first two entries on this list, but The Mandalorian is a compelling story and still deserves to be recognised as one of the best offerings on the Disney Plus platform.

The series wowed fans and critics alike, with ‘Baby Yoda’ becoming a viral sensation online. The show bagged positive reviews across the board.

Pedro Pascal stars as the titular Mandalorian in a series that’s been described by numerous critics as a “space western”. It’s Star Wars like you’ve never seen it before.

4. Moana

2016’s Moana is the story of a young girl – played by Auli’i Carvalho – on a Polynesian island who bravely goes against her father’s wishes to save her island from a natural disater. She meets a demi-god voiced by Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and ultimately, their journey is great family fun.

Masterminded by some of the creators of Aladdin and and Zootopia, the film impressed most critics, with Mark Kermode awarding four stars in his Guardian review.

Kermode said: “Having made their names with the hand-drawn triumphs of The Little Mermaid and Aladdin, directors Ron Clements and John Musker here segue seamlessly into their first CG feature, embracing the malleable magic of digital animation while retaining the clear lines that underpinned their previous work.”

5. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs

If you want something from the classics catalogue, why not look up the Disney film that started it all. 1937’s Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was Walt Disney’s first feature film and has created a huge and lasting legacy.

Based on a Grimm’s fairy tale from 1812, the well-loved story follows Snow White, who’s wicked step mother attempts to have her killed. Her escape and her relationship with the eponymous seven dwarfs has become a formative story in the history of animated cinema.

6. Muppet Treasure Island

As a true 90s child, I’d be remiss if I neglected to include any of the superb Muppets movies that came out around the same time, but as it’s a long wait until Christmas, I’m going with Muppet Treasure Island. Starring none other than Tim Curry as Long John Silver, alongside the classic Muppets crew, Treasure Island is a surprisingly solid adaptation of its source material – just with a lot more singing and dancing.

Once the film starts, you’d have to physically restrain me to prevent a full-blown singalong to ‘Shiver my Timbers’. All these years later, the film’s soundtrack is still as catchy as anything, and it’s a great reminder of why the Muppets are still everyone’s favourite band of misfits.
