Crysis Remastered on Switch has shocked gamers – Here's why
Crysis is a game that was made notorious by the huge demands it placed on PCs back in the day. Now, it’s getting a 2020 remaster, bringing the game up to date on PC, PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch. Yes, Nintendo Switch.
Crysis, on the go, for the Nintendo Switch.
Needless to say, gamers have been shocked by the idea that a Switch can run Crysis in the first place. Despite it being a 13-year-old game, Crysis was in many ways, ahead of its time when it was originally released in 2007, both graphically and in terms of the freedom it offered players in an open world.
Now, it’s been seen running on Switch, but the results have garnered mixed reviews.
While some expressed shock that a Switch could pull this game off at all, others said that the original Crysis title looked basically the same on Switch, rather than looking like a remastered version. As a result, the release date of the remaster has been delayed slightly.

Take a look at some of the newly available screenshots below.
The trailer leaked on YouTube a little earlier than Nintendo had in mind, but criticism of the visuals has already led to the game’s release date being delayed by “a few weeks” according to a statement from the developers at Crytek.
Take a look at the trailer below and see what you think.
An excerpt of the statement from Crytek reads:
“Your passion for the Crysis franchise deserves an undeniably high-quality game, and we are committed to delivering just that. To ensure we meet that commitment, we will need to delay the launch date (all platforms) and trailer premiere by a few weeks. Because they already started, pre-order for Switch will remain open, but pre-orders for other platforms will be delayed as well.”
“This extra time until release will allow us to get Crysis Remastered up to the PC – and console-breaking standard you’ve come to expect from Crysis games.”
We see in the statement’s reference to “console-breaking” standards that Crytek is well aware of the game’s infamy. Hopefully the extra few weeks of visual work will bring Crysis Remastered up a notch – it’s certainly a title worth adding to any Switch owner’s library.
