Taika Waititi unexpectedly rips into "horrendous" MacBook keyboards after Oscars win
The Oscars ceremony took an unexpected turn last night when award-winner Taika Waititi took the opportunity to lay into Apple’s MacBook keyboards.
Waititi picked up the award for Best Adapted Screenplay for his work on wartime satire Jojo Rabbit. Following his big win, one journalist asked the writer, director and comedian what writers should be demanding from Hollywood producers.
Waititi somewhat sidestepped the question, replying: “Apple needs to fix those keyboards. They are impossible to write on, they’ve gotten worse. It makes me want to go back to PCs. Because PC keyboards, the bounce-back for your fingers is way better.”

We’re presuming this is directed towards Apple’s butterfly keyboards, which were swapped out in November of last year. The latest MacBooks now pack a more conventional keyboard and the consensus, so far, seems to be that it makes for a better typing experience.
Waititi really was keen to give Apple both barrels over the butterfly keyboard. He cited his Repetitive Strain Injury, brought on by continually typing, hunched over a laptop keyboard and called on the Writers Guild of America (WGA) to address the issue.
“I’ve got some shoulder problems. I’ve got OOS [another term for repetitive strain injury,] I don’t know what you call it over here, this sort of thing here [in my arm] that tendon which goes down your forearm down into the thumb? You know what I’m talking about, if you guys are ever writing. And what happens is you open the laptop and you’re like this [he poses as if typing] — we’ve just got to fix those keyboards. The WGA needs to step in and actually do something.”

“Those Apple keyboards are horrendous,” he said. “Especially as the computers, as the laptops get newer and newer … the keyboards are worse… We’ve just got to fix those keyboards. The WGA needs to step in and actually do something.”
Apple’s latest 16-inch MacBook Pro addresses the keyboard issues that Waititi seems to be talking about here (though he didn’t clarify what model he was criticising − maybe he hates the new one too?).
