Samsung Officially Announces 870 QVO SSD; Available In 8TB Capacity

Back in June, rumours hinted at the possibility of Samsung creating a consumer-oriented 8TB SATA SSD for the masses. Well, it turns out that the rumours were true and the South Korean industrial giant has lifted the veil back from its new 870 QVO SSD.

Specs-wise, the 870 QVO uses the 6GB/s SATA interface and is only available in the standard 2.5-inch form factor. The storage memory is a V-NAND 4-bit QLC, while the controller used in the storage device is a Samsung MKX Controller. In terms of capacity, the 870 QVO starts from 1TB while the largest capacity offered is 8TB. Moreover, the DRAM used in the SSD starts from 1GB LPDDR4 for the 1TB, while the 8TB version supports 8GB LPDDR4.

The 870 QVO’s performance is par for the course, with sequential read and write speeds being just slightly faster than the standard SATA SSD at 560MB/s and 530MB/s, respectively. While its random read and write speeds are each rated at 98K IOPS and 88K IOPS.

The Samsung 870 QVO is already available on the market, and comes in capacities of 1TB, 2TB, 4TB, and 8TB. The recommended retail price for the SSD starts at US$129.99 (~RM557) for the 1TB model, while the price of the other three variants are still unknown. At the time of writing, Samsung Malaysia also has not said if and when it plans to bring in the new storage series.
