Even though the on-demand video streaming market is a very competitive space, there is always a new player that daring enough to tackle the rough waters every once in a while. Earlier this week, a Malaysian company, Sutera Hijau Ventures has announced its plan to launch a new streaming service called Nurflix.

What made Nurflix rather unique than other streaming services in the market so far is it focused on Islamic contents. In fact, the service has been cited by Bernama as the first Syariah-compliant streaming service in Malaysia.

According to its official website, Nurflix will be officially launched to the public in January 2021. However, the trial phase will take place from October to December this year involving 12 original contents that will be shown for free during the said period.

Syed Zainal Abidin, the Chairman of Nurflix.TV. Helming the new streaming service is an interesting choice by the well-known corporate figure, given his previous stints at Petronas, Perodua, and Proton.

The Chairman of Nurflix.TV, Syed Zainal Abidin has stated during the press conference that Nurflix has yet to decide on a monthly fee although he expects that it will be able to identify the price point by the end of the year. Nurflix has also aimed to allocate up to RM 40 million to produce the first 12 original contents mentioned above which is quite substantial.

Additionally, the service also aimed to obtain 1 million views by the end of January 2021 which again signify the level of ambition and confidence that Nurflix possessed. Well, competitiveness and choice are good for the industry and consumers alike although we do hope that Nurflix will not just fizzle away in the end as per the other Islamic-based streaming project, Aflix.
