Visionox Announced First Commercial Under-Display Camera Solution for Mass Production
Chinese manufacturers are among the best when it comes to innovations such as an under-the-display front camera. Visionox, the biggest OLED manufacturer in China that has supplied AMOLED panels for the latest Xiaomi Mi 10 and Mi Note 10, has revealed that it has successfully developed under-the-screen cameras and can begin mass production asap.
Note that the technology is not new as Oppo showcased it earlier at MWC Shanghai 2019. However, incorporating this new technology in a commercially available product means there are a plethora of hurdles that manufacturers will have to deal with before it the technology could actually roll out. Under-the-display cameras have issues with a color difference, brightness, glare, and biggest of all, diffraction that is caused due to the top-most layer and protective glass alike.
Visionox recently confirmed that it has developed an under-the-display camera technology called InV See. It uses a different set of organic and non-organic film materials that allows higher transparency. The hardware is new but it needs a heavy-duty software to properly align photos captured using the front cameras. The company claims that it is working with smartphone manufacturers in developing algorithms that will fix issues such as viewing angle, color gamut, glare, the brightness that under-the-display cameras possess.
Apart from that, the company has also optimized pixel arrangements around the lens that should allow it to look through the display easing the diffraction between the main display and the secondary display. In fact, it is brought to the notice that even if the screen is Full HD, the areas around the camera lens could turn to HD or even SD image quality.
Visionox was able to make it possible thanks to hundreds of new technologies, many of which the company has already patented. Also, the company states that the InV See camera technology is ready for AMOLED panels only so LCD panel smartphones will have to wait for the integration.
According to GSMArena, the company seems to mass-produce the technology while smartphone makers are expected to adopt and roll out demo units as early as by the end of this year. Furthermore, a product with this technology is expected to commercially launch in Q1 2021 although there is still a lot of work that Visionox and the participating smartphone makers will have to work towards rolling out such tech.
