Google Play Movies surpasses 5 billion downloads

The Google Play Movies app has experienced a surge in downloads, likely due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic that has forced many people to practise social distancing.

The Android app, which features TV series and movies, just passed 5 billion downloads.

It’s worth pointing out that there’s no way of telling if users are renting or purchasing content on the platform.

According to AppBrain data, ‘Play Movies & TV’ peaked in popularity in mid-May.
