The MacBook Pro 2020 has been rumoured to launch for some time now, but fresh leaks suggest it will have even better specs than we initially suspected.

Renowned laptop leaker and Twitter user @_rogame not only suggests the upcoming 13-inch MacBook Pro 2020 will feature a brand new Intel Ice Lake processor, but will also see a configuration with 32GB RAM and a whopping 4TB storage capacity.

This will of course be a very expensive configuration, but it’s currently unclear what specs the entry-level model will offer.

Another leaker (Jon Prosser) suggests it’s “a big possibility” that Apple’s new laptop will feature a 14-inch display, yet still replace the current 13-inch models. This would make a lot of sense, as it’s the same approach Apple took with the MacBook Pro 16, as they slimmed down the bezel and retained the same form factor.

The new MacBook Pro is also expected to finally adopt the new Scissor-switch keyboard, ditching the controversial Butterfly counterpart. This change will ensure improved key travel, and a generally better typing experience.

For everything else on the rumoured MacBook Pro 2020, keep reading on. We’ll be updating this article whenver new information drops.

MacBook Pro 2020 release date – When will it launch?

The MacBook Pro 2020 could arrive this month (May 2020).

YouTuber and leaker Jon Prosser (via MacRumors) posted on Twitter that he expects Apple’s upcoming laptop to arrive in May, but only “if everything goes well”.

Considering how devestating the current Covid-19 pandemic has been to global supply chains, we wouldn’t rule out a delay right now. That said, it’s still looking likely the MacBook Pro 2020 will launch soon, with analyst Ming-Chi Kuo also claiming a Q2 2020 release window.

MacBook Pro 2020 price – How much will it cost?

The MacBook Pro 2020 price is still unconfirmed, which is no surprise since Apple hasn’t confirmed the existence of the laptop yet.

With rumours of significant performance, display and keyboard upgrades, we could be set for a big price rise. That said, Apple generally maintains the same price for new models, having refrained from lowering the cost throughout the product’s lifecycle.

The current 13-inch MacBook Pro has a £1299 starting price (1.4GHz processor), which climbs up to £1999 when uprading the processor and storage. If the rumours about the 4TB SSD and 32GB RAM specs are accurate, you can expect to see the maximum price of the 2020 edition surpassing that by quite a margin.

MacBook Pro 2020 keyboard

The keyboard has long been a controversial feature on Apple laptops, as the Butterfly switches have been criticised for not having enough travel. Apple finally fixed this with the MacBook Pro 16, with the scissor switches ensuring the keys have deeper presses.

This new ‘Magic Keyboard’ will reportedely carry over to the upcoming 13-inch MacBook Pro, allowing fans of smal-form laptops to enjoy the much improved typing epxerience.

MacBook Pro 2020 display

A report from Ming-Chi Kuo (via 9to5Mac) claims the new MacBook Pro will see a new 14.1-inch display, replacing the current 13-inch model. This potentially won’t affect the size of the ultrabook, as Apple could increase the screen size by simply squashing down the bezel.

Kuo also says Apple will adopt the new Mini LED display technology across a variety of its products – including the rumoured 14.1-inch MacBook Pro for 2020. Mini LED enables the development of thinner and lighter devices with little effect on screen quality.

The rumours and analyst reports of this change are widespread and come from some notable sources. However, it must be noted that Apple exec Phil Schiller appeared to somewhat contradict these rumours by suggesting customers shouldn’t extrapolate the reasoning behind the bigger screen on the MacBook Pro 16-inch down to the smaller model.

Schiller’s meaning isn’t crystal clear though, and that’s why the 14-inch rumours show no sign of slowing down.

MacBook Pro 2020 performance

One of the biggest issues with the curent 13-inch MacBook Pro is that it’s still using an Intel 8th Gen processor, which is incredibly outdated these days. It comes as no surprise then, that the MacBook Pro 2020 will apparently feature a new Intel 10th Gen Ice Lake processor.

The recent release of the MacBook Air 2020, which sports the 10th Gen Intel Ice Lake specs, further adds weight to the notion that the new 2020 MacBook Pro model is sure to adopt these latest chips.

With the Ice Lake processors containing a powerful graphics engine, this will theoretically allow for casual gaming and creative work without seeing a signicant increase in weight.

Reports have also suggested there will be much more variation in specs than before, with up to 4TB storage capacity and 32GB RAM, which are both frankly overkill for the majority of people. There’s also the possibility that Apple will drop the 128GB base model for the refresh, with some believing that isn’t enough storage for modern users.
