Some 2nd Gen iPhone SE Parts Are Interchangeable With iPhone 8
It goes without saying that Apple’s recently launched second generation iPhone SE bears similarities to the iPhone 8, save for some upgraded hardware components. With that, a breakdown video uploaded on Youtube by Wenzhou Technology has showcased that some parts of the new SE model works interchangeably with the 2017 iPhone.
The major differences between the two models includes the modem and WiFi chip, battery connector, flash module and camera setup, among others. Being a current generation upgrade to the 2017 model, the iPhone SE features a new 12MP rear camera sensor, and Apple’s A13 Bionic chip. While it’s reported that its battery capacity is somewhat similar, the battery itself differs from the one found on the iPhone 8.
Wenzhou’s teardown video demonstrated that the display for both Apple iPhones functions interchangeably with one another thanks to their similar design. He noted that the iPhone 8’s motherboard is actually compatible with the 2nd gen iPhone SE and supports most of its hardware and features, except for the aforementioned camera setup and flash module.
The SE model features a battery connector similar to the one found on the iPhone 11, therefore eliminating the possibility of interchangeability with the 2017 model’s battery component. Since its motherboard is equipped with a current generation modem and WiFi chip, changing it to the iPhone 8 version will be a downgrade for its connectivity.
From the video, it’s proven that the parts of the 2017 model can easily be used to repair or replace the ones on the 2nd gen iPhone SE if required. Importantly, it also points out that the similarities and interchangeability are only limited to mostly minor components or cosmetics, therefore ensuring owners from the risk of using bogus hardware for repairs.
