MOH: PPE Supply Lasts Two Weeks; Need More Donations

With the COVID-19 pandemic, the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) has been at an all-time high. As a result, its supply is running low fast, despite donations from NGOs. The Ministry of Health (MOH) is urging everyone to donate more of it for frontline medical workers to use.

The Director-General of Health Datuk Dr Noor Hisham said that the current supply of PPE is enough to last for another two weeks. Dr Noor Hisham was quoted by Bernama as saying “if NGOs want to donate, please donate PPE to us. We are still welcoming PPE donations”. referring to the MOH.

As disposable items, the use of PPE has risen by between two to 10 times the normal rate. This is in contrast to ventilators which, at 956, Dr Noor Hisham said there are enough of.  The MOH will continue to procure more PPE, via donations from NGOs or in bulk via central procurement.

As essential use items for frontline medical workers, the shortage of PPE supplies is bad news for them. It’s something that they desperately need to keep themselves safe, while treating others that are affected by the disease.
