PS5 And Xbox Series X On Track For End 2020 Launch
Thanks to the outbreak of COVID-19, you’d think that there’s a chance that the PlayStation 5 (PS5) and the Xbox Series X will get delayed. After all, the outbreak has caused many factories to be closed temporarily. This includes Foxconn, which could also affect the supply of iPhones. Fortunately, it looks like the production of the next-gen consoles remain unaffected.
BGR reports that AMD’s Executive Vice President of Computing and Graphics, Rick Bergman, showed a slide indicating as much during the company’s Financial Analyst Day presentation. The slide in question has a part that simply says “Next Generation On Track”. Alongside it is the line “Coming Holiday 2020”, which is the timeframe announced by Sony and Microsoft.
With both the PS5 and the Xbox Series X using AMD hardware, AMD saying both will be on track is reassuring. Of course, there are many elements in a console beyond their CPU and GPU. Even if everything is smooth sailing with AMD, the consoles could still get delayed if the production of other components hit a snag.
While the announcement of the PS5 and Xbox Series X are still on track, there’s still the question of supply. For now, we haven’t heard anything about plants manufacturing the consoles’ components being shut down. Hopefully things stay that way, though with the way the outbreak is spreading, we should steel our hearts for if we do get the unfortunate news.
