Leica S3 Medium Format Camera Launched; Features 64MP Sensor And 4K Video Recording
German camera maker Leica has officially launched its latest medium format camera, the Leica S3. A sequel to its predecessor that was released in 2008, the camera features a larger sensor as well as 4K video recording.
The S3 features a 30 x 45mm Leica 64MP ProFormat CMOS sensor with an ISO sensitivity range from 100-50,000, 15-stops of dynamic range, and a 3:2 aspect ratio. Powering the sensor is a Maestro II processor, and a large 2GB buffer which allows the camera to shoot at a top speed of 3fps for photos.
Video-wise, the camera shoots Cinema 4K by utilising the entire width of its medium format sensor at 24fps. Higher frame rates are possible by lowering its resolution to full HD. Other features include Wi-Fi connectivity which are compatible with iOS, iPadOS, and Android. It’s also capable of wired connectivity via Leica’s Shuttle app or Adobe Lightroom Classic plug-in.
The S3’s body sports the series’ classic Leica DSLR look with magnesium, aluminium and stainless steel parts, and is also completely weather-sealed. Additionally, it is equipped with an optical viewfinder, a 3-inch LCD display, and a 2,850mAh battery that allows the camera to shoot over 1,000 images. External recording equipment and microphones are also supported for video shooting.
The Leica S3 has been shipped worldwide starting from 6 March, and will arrive in Malaysia sometime soon. The camera is priced at RM87,000 for body only, with pre-orders now open on Leica Malaysia’s website.
