Electronic Arts Increased The Price Of A Number Of Older Games On Steam

Back in October, Electronic Arts and Steam got into an agreement to bring the former’s games onto the latter. But now, it looks like some of the publisher’s games have had their priced hiked in certain regional currencies.

Reddit user MJuniorDC9 saw on SteamDB three games that got price hikes on Steam. They are SimCity 4: Deluxe Edition, Mass Effect Collection, and Crysis 2: Maximum Edition.

To start, SimCity 4: Deluxe Edition has had its price jumped from GBP9.99 / EUR9.99 / CA$19.99 to GBP17.99 / EUR19.99 / CA$26.99. Even in our own currency, the price of the game has jumped from RM38 to RM75. This is effectively a doubling of its price, as of 5 February.

Then there’s the Mass Effect Collection, which more than doubled, jumping from RM65 to RM139. It’s much the same story with Crysis 2: Maximum Edition, which went from RM56 to RM119.

There are plenty of other EA games that have suffered the same fate. Mirror’s Edge, Dead Space, Dead Space 2 and Medal of Honor, for example, went from RM38 to RM79. All of them went up on 5 February 2020, when the old prices have been around since December 2015.

Unlike the price glitch with Assassin’s Creed Unity, this does seem to be a deliberate price adjustment on Electronic Arts’ part. As for the reason why this is being done, EA hasn’t said anything about it just yet. So if you’re looking to buy any of these, you might want to compare them to their prices on Origin.
