Valve May Announce A VR Title Known As Half-Life: Alyx
It is rumoured that Valve will announce a new Half-Life virtual reality (VR) game called Half-Life: Alyx. This will coincide with the 21st anniversary of the first Half-Life game. The rumour came from the same person who leaked Valve’s Dota Underlords prior to its announcement.
According to PC Gamer, the information came from an interview between Geoff Keighley, journalist, producer and host of The Game Awards; Robin Walker, a co-developer for Team Fortress 2; and an unnamed person. In the transcript, Keighley mentioned “March 2020, “Half-Life: Alyx” comin’ out”. This means the game’s release could just be a few months away.
There are also mentions of the game being available for players without VR headsets. Additionally, the unnamed person expressed interest in developing the game to be played with keyboard and mouse.
Valve announced that it is releasing a flagship VR game earlier this year, around the time its Index VR headset was announced. However, no names were mentioned during the announcement back then. It’s possible that Half-Life: Alyx is the game in question, but there’s no way to know for sure until the company makes an official announcement. The last entry of the series was Half-Life 2: Episode 2, released 12 years ago, back in 2007.
With the Valve Index VR Headset released earlier this year, Valve is taking a step into developing VR games as well. Perhaps, Half-Life: Alyx could exactly be Valve’s flagship VR game. As it comes to rumours, it is always important to take it with a pinch of salt.
