New Patent Hints At iPhone Apple Logo Being A Notification Light

Apple has long been illuminating the Apple logo behind its MacBook lineup for several years. Now it seems that the fruit company might be planning on porting the aesthetic feature over to its iPhones.

Indications of Apple’s bright-eyed plans were first discovered on a patent application made with the USPTO, with several references made to a “cellular telephone”. Specifically, the patent describes an “adjustable decoration” that would react to “incoming communications”. In other words, a light that would indicate when the phone receives a message.

Additionally, the patent also mentions something about decoration with three different “adjustable layers”. This could indicate that users can identify the notification type, depending on a different colour and light effects on the logo.

Fitting a smartphone brand’s logo with LEDs is not groundbreaking. The Razer Phone 2, for example, has a brand logo that is fitted with customisable LEDs, allowing to glow in almost every colour of the rainbow.

Of course, nothing is set in stone yet, and there’s no guarantee that this particular patent will event see the light of day. So, in that spirit, we ask that you take this bit of news with a pinch of salt.
