Samsung May Feature Google’s Wear OS In Its Next Smartwatch

Samsung appears to be moving back to using a Google-designed OS for its smartwatches; at least that seems to be the case as reported by serial leaker Evan Blass. It’s not entirely clear what the new devices are, only that some Samsung employees have been spotted walking around with them.

Samsung seen reasonable success with its Tizen powered smartwatches in recent years; particularly after dropping the rather unintuitive Android Wear. However, it may be that Wear OS fits the bill for its wearable plans.

The company is also apparently renewing the Galaxy branding for its smartwatches; having filed new trademark applications for two new products – Galaxy Watch and Galaxy Fit – at the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). Galaxy is traditionally linked with Android devices in Samsung’s lineup, and this may just be a rebranding exercise by Samsung to synchronise its line of products.

It may be a bit too early to speculate if and when the new Samsung products will appear on store shelves. The question at hand is what will happen to Tizen in the grand scheme of things.
