Government Allows Interstate Travel During This Aidiladha; Limits Social Visit To 20 People At A Time

Following his remark from last weekend, Senior Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob today has announced the standard operational procedures (SOP) for the upcoming Aidiladha celebration which will take place later this week.

Included in the SOP is the maximum amount of people that can be in your home for social visits or Aidiladha feast. According to the announcement today, Minister Ismail stated that the limit is 20 people at one time.

If you are wondering you can balik kampung during the upcoming Aidiladha celebration, the answer is yes as no restrictions will be imposed on interstate travel according to Minister Ismail.

However, he has also mentioned that the federal government has approved the application from Sarawak state government who is planning to impose interzone travel restrictions from 1 to 14 August 2020 due to increasing number of COVID-19 cases over there.

The Sarawak state government has designated Kuching, Serian, and Samarahan as Zone 1 while Sri Aman, Betong, Sarikei, Kapit, Mukah, Bintulu, Miri, and Limbang are under Zone 2. Through this implementation, the public will require approvals from PDRM before they can travel between these two zones while flights into Sarawak from other locations within Malaysia will also be reduced during the same period.

As for the Qurban ritual itself, the government has imposed a limit of 10 animals for each mosque and surau as well as locations that have received approvals from district religious officials and local governments.

This limit still depends on the size of each location and only 20 people can be involved in the Qurban ritual for each animal, which equals to a maximum limit of 200 individuals per location. In addition to that, on-premise Aidiladha feast is strictly prohibited although the distribution of pre-packed meals is still allowed at each Qurban locations.

All in all, it seems that the SOP for Aidiladha is still not as strict as the previous Aidilfitri’s SOP especially in terms of social visits since you can still travel interstate and the 20 people restriction is not an accumulative daily limit. Nevertheless, do mind that our fight against COVID-19 is still far from over and please continue to wear a face mask in public places as well as practice social distancing and good personal hygiene.
