PlayStation 5 Patent Suggests Ability To Help Players Clear A Stage By Showing Gameplay From Other Players

Sony has had a couple of patents suggesting that the PlayStation 5 will actively try to help players clear games. A previous one depicted the console’s digital assistant telling you the estimated amount of time you need to clear a level. This included hints of ways to do it faster. A new patent now describes the hint part of that, in a lot more detail.

Basically, when you’re stuck at a particular level, the PS5 give you hints on the ways to clear it. Part of the way it does this is by analysing your previous gameplay behaviours. It will then suggest strategies that may work for you. Beyond your own gameplay, it also compares your performance with other players. The PS5 will then share with you their strategies to clear the level you’re stuck at.

The patent states that this may also come in video format. This, in turn, suggests that clips you record may be analysed and shown to others who are facing similar challenges. Beyond video, the patent says that gameplay tips can also be provided via text, or audio, or any combination of the three.

PS5 patent home UI

Incidentally, the patent also shows a home screen UI that’s very similar to the one on the PS4.

It’s interesting to see that Sony is going to such lengths to help players with games. If all this actually make it to the retail PlayStation 5, it will save people some of the trouble of having to pull out their phone to search for guides. But on the flip side, it does raise some eyebrows when it comes to privacy. Either way, being contents of a patent, this may not necessarily make their way to the next generation Sony console.
