Apple iOS 14 Reportedly Coming To iPhone 6s Onwards; Safari To Include Built-In Translator

Apple’s upcoming iOS 14 operating system for its mobile devices is set to be announced during the company’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) on 22 June 2020. While the company has been quiet regarding the details of this update, sources have reported several interesting information that were acquired from leaks.

News website The Verifier (via 9to5Mac) reported that the latest version of the operating system will allegedly be coming to all existing iOS 13 iPhone and iPad devices. If accurate, this would mean that iPhones ranging from the 6s series onwards will receive the update eventually after it is rolled out. However, the source noted that iOS 14 will be the last operating system update for devices running on the A9 chip, such as the aforementioned iPhone 6S and the 2016 iPhone SE.

On a separate note, 9to5Mac also claimed that Apple’s Safari web browser will include a built-in translator in a future update. The new feature was discovered in an early build of the new iOS 14 which was recently obtained by the site.

This would allow the web browser to automatically translate web pages without assistance from third-party apps or services. The site added that there’s also the possibility of allowing users to switch languages from the original text to the translated version on the fly – much like the Translate option on Google Chrome.

Additionally, 9to5Mac reported that web browsers on iPadOS 14 may feature full support for Apple’s Pencil accessory as well. Thus enabling users the ability to draw and markup on websites, on top of using it for scrolling and interactions.
