Apple Bricks And Tracks iPhones Stolen From Stores

You may have heard that Apple is able to track iPhones stolen from stores. And now, we may be looking at evidence of the tech in action. This comes after the rioting and looting that happened last week and over the weekend.

Twitter user @onlyfanobtainer posted a shot of an iPhone asking the person holding it to return to a location where it’s presumably from. In addition to that, it also says onscreen that the device has been disabled and is being tracked. And finally, it ends with “local authorities will be alerted”.

It’s unknown what protocols Apple has in place for tracking its stolen devices or alerting the authorities. Equally unclear is what action will the company take relating to this. But this at least gives us a rare chance to see this security system in action. And it shouldn’t exactly be surprising that a company like Apple would have something like this in place.

As a result of escalating protests, Apple has closed its stores in the US over the weekend. The image in question surfaced at around the same time, which makes it likely that it was taken from an Apple store just before the closures.
