Hacker Returns Close To US$25 Million In Cryptocurrency To Exchange

Usually, when we hear the word hacker, the story that follows involves an individual or company being the target of a malicious attack or cybertheft with little recourse. In the case of dForce, however, a hacker who initially stole from them decided to return a large chunk of its money to them.

By a large chunk, we mean that the hacker returned close to US$25 million (~RM109 million) in cryptocurrency assets back to the company. Why the hacker returned all that money is unknown, but some are speculating that the hacker may have had a change of heart or seen the error of his ways.

Another suggests that perhaps the hacker’s personal details and identity was discovered, and thus came to a deal with dForce in order to preserve them and avoid any legal prosecution.

To be clear, while the hacker did return the money, he did not, however, return the exact balance that he had stolen, but rather returned funds in a multitude of tokens. In any case, it’s good to see something of a refreshing tale in the world of cryptocurrency, especially since these sort of attacks usually end with the victim being left in the lurch.
