DBKL Tests Urban Sanitising Using Drones

In addition to being used in enforcing the Movement Control Order, it looks like drones can be used for sanitising as well. The Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) is currently testing using drones to sanitise urban areas, including high-rise buildings.

The Star reports that DBKL is engaging a private drone firm to evaluate the suitability of this exercise. Tan Sri Annuar Musa, the Federal Territories Minister, was quoted as saying drones are an option to disinfect high-rise buildings, which could save a lot of manpower.

Dronology Sdn Bhd lead research engineer David Amuthesan says the company’s drones are mainly used for agricultural spraying, but the eight nozzles on them can be cutomised to fit specific purposes. They also have a flight time of 20 minutes, and can cary 16 litres of disinfectant.

All that said, it’s not known if DBKL has consulted with the Ministry of Health (MOH) regarding these tests. According to the Malay Mail, Health Director-General Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said recent disinfection operations were done before the MOH could provide guidelines.
