The Wonderful 101 is coming to Nintendo Switch, PS4 and PC after hitting Kickstarter goal

PlatinumGames’ The Wonderful 101 is officially coming to Nintendo Switch, PS4 and PC later this year, as the developer’s kickstarter campaign reached its goal within minutes of going live. 

Originally asking for just £38,356 as its overall funding goal, the remaster effort has now surpassed over £790,000 and counting in fan contributions. It’s shown no signs of slowing with 31 days still remaining in the campaign, either.

First launching for the ill-fated Nintendo Wii U back in 2013, PlatinumGames’ quirky action experience sold miserably despite praise from critics, and has cultivated a deep appreciation from hardcore fans ever since. Now, it’s finally making a comeback on modern platforms.

It has now surpassed a number of funding goals, which means The Wonderful 101 Remastered is now coming to PS4, Nintendo Switch and PC. Other stretch goals yet to be reached include a time trial mode and a few other interesting surprises we’re keen to see unearthed. 

Speaking to Eurogamer director Hideki Kamiya had this to say about the upcoming release: “In terms of the contents, it’s one of our larger games, so we’re happy with how it is. It’s not the case that we want to add more content – we just want to make it more user-friendly.”

“I’ve got a list of the things I’ve always wanted to change that I wasn’t quite satisfied with in the original. Being able to revisit the game has allowed us to make those fine-tuned adjustments.” It sounds like PlatinumGames is keen to build upon the original instead of a simple port, which is great to hear. 

The Wonderful 101 is part of the “Platinum 4” which is a list of new projects coming from the Japanese developer, three of which still remain a mystery. We imagine they will be slowly revealed in the coming weeks, and we’re desperately crossing our fingers that one of them is NieR related.
