Sony Xperia 1 II launched with 5G support and Snapdragon 865 SoC

One of the biggest technology events for this year, the MWC 2020, got cancelled as announced by the GSMA. Now, we know that a lot of smartphone companies traditionally launch their phones at this event.

The list of companies launching their new phones at MWC includes the likes of Sony, Motorola, LG, Samsung and others. Now, Samsung already released their flagship S20 series earlier this month at a separate event and we don’t know about LG and Motorola’s plans. But we now have an announcement from Sony regarding their latest flagship smartphone.

This new smartphone from Sony, which will be their flagship phone for 2020, is named as the Sony Xperia 1 II. Now, we know that this is a weird name but the name can also be called as Sony Xperia 1 Mark II which is inspired by their flagship DSLR camera series. Also, Sony says that they have brought many elements from their Mark series DSLRs to this Sony Xperia 1 II which brings a lot of excitement to the table for Sony’s latest phone.

To add to this excitement, it is also Sony’s first 5G smartphone as it comes with a Snapdragon 865 processor along with a 5G modem. As for the display, Sony has continued its trend of giving you 4K display on smartphones. This display on the Sony Xperia 1 II is a 6.5-inch HDR OLED panel along with 4K resolution and 21:9 aspect ratio. For protection, you have Gorilla Glass 6 on top of the display.

As for the internals, you get 8GB RAM and 256GB internal storage and Adreno 650 GPU is built-in for better graphics performance. Having said that, the main talking point of Sony’s Xperia 1 II are its cameras.

On paper, the Sony Xperia 1 II comes with triple 12MP sensors. From these three camera sensors having the same megapixel count, one is an ultra-wide, other is a wide whereas the third is a telephoto lens. There is also a fourth 3D ToF sensor for depth sensing. There is an 8MP selfie camera on the front of this device too.

The best part about Sony’s Xperia 1 II is that it has a 3.5mm headphone jack which means those who have to have a headphone jack on their phones in 2020 and want it to be powerful, this phone is their only option. The phone also houses a 4000 mAh that support 21W wired charging and 15W wireless charging.

Coming to the looks of this device, Sony has given a very industrial look to the phone which means that the need to use a case on this one has been eliminated. We feel that while there will be many who will hate this phone for its design, there will be many who will like it as well.

But that is before they see the price of this smartphone because Sony’s Xperia 1 Mark II will be available for $1300 as per some reports. Also, the smartphone is not available right now and it will hit stores in Europe by late Spring 2020.
