Motorola Responds To Razr Folding Test; Says FoldBot Puts Undue Strain

Recently, the Motorola Razr was made to go through a folding test by CNET. It’s the same one that the Samsung Galaxy Fold was put through. The test resulted in the former not surviving as many s folds as the latter. As you’d expect, Motorola has something to say about that.

A Motorola spokesperson said that the SquareTrade FoldBot is not designed to properly test the Razr. The machine did not fold the Razr completely, and as such puts undue stress on the folding mechanism. It’s also not representative of real-world use of the device.

The folding test with the SquareTrade FoldBot saw the Motorola Razr going through 27218 folds before its hinge broke.That said, its display was still working. In comparison, the Samsung Galaxy Fold went through 120000 folds before it failed. But on the flip side, the Fold’s screen also began to fail at this point.

Assuming the statement by Motorola is true and the hinge of the Razr lasts longer when folded completely, then it will likely last longer than just slightly over 27000 folds. All that said, the company did not say what’s the official number of folds the phone is supposed to go through at a minimum.
