Hot Wheels Announces Tesla Cybertruck RC Toys; Priced At US$400 and US$20
Elon Musk surprised the world with the retro-futuresque Tesla Cybertruck reveal last year in November. If its US$50K price tag scares you, then maybe you might want to opt for the limited edition Hot Wheels toys instead.
Mattel has recently announced two Tesla Cybertruck models on 22 February 2020. The two consist of a tiny 1:64 scale version priced at US$20, and a 1:10 scale replica going for US$400. Both have remote control (RC) functions, while the larger version packs additional features.
The 1:10 Cybertruck RC model sports functioning headlights and taillights, as well as two driving modes: Chill and Sport. Like Tesla’s actual truck, it also features a motorised telescoping tailgate that slides out to form a loading ramp for the bed.
Mattel claims that the larger model is an all-wheel drive capable of going off-road and navigating through rugged terrain. Amusingly, it also features a reusable “cracked window vinyl sticker” as a nod to the infamous bulletproof glass incident that occurred during the Cybertruck’s launch.
The smaller version is the size of a… well, a Hot Wheels car. It lacks the other cool features of its larger sibling, but it does feature two driving modes as well. According to Mattel, the tiny RC toy is capable of reaching “up to 500mph (~800kmh) scale speed.”
The two limited edition Hot Wheels Cybertruck toys will be shipping in December, with pre-orders open now via Mattel’s website. However, it’s stated that they will only be available to US and Canada for now. Bummer.
