GSC Pavilion Will Be Permanently Closing Down Soon

It’s just been confirmed that GSC (Golden Screen Cinemas) will be closing down its Pavilion Kuala Lumpur branch. While the theatre chain has not made an announcement on any of its social media pages, I received a picture from a source (presumably taken near the ticketing counter of GSC in Pavilion) which reads that GSC Pavilion will be permanently closed beginning from 16 February 2020.

I’ve reached out to GSC who have confirmed this news. GSC also mentioned that they’d like to extend their sincerest thanks and gratitude to all movie-goers who have supported GSC Pavilion for the past 12 years.

A source of mine also mentioned that the popular theatre chain company could not reach a new agreement with Pavilion KL. I’ve also been told that a theatre chain from China will be opening up a branch in Pavilion KL. I’ve reached out to Pavilion KL and am awaiting their comment.

GSC Pavilion

This story will, of course, come as a shock to movie buffs living in the Klang Valley as the Pavilion branch of GSC has been running for more than a decade. GSC Pavilion Kuala Lumpur launched on 29 November 2007 and has over the years undergone a number of renovations and upgrades to include top-notch cinematic viewing technology. It has 13 halls, including speciality halls such as THX, Gold Class and D-Box.

While this news is a bit of a bummer, there are still other GSC branches around the area that you can head to including GSC MyTOWN Cheras, GSC Berjaya Times Square, GSC Quill City Mall, GSC Mid Valley and also Aurum Theatre in The Gardens Mall.
