Director of Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man in Talks to Make Doctor Strange 2

About a month ago, we reported that Doctor Strange 2 / Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness had lost its director, Scott Derickson, due to creative differences with the studio. It’s only the second time something like this has happened at Marvel Studios. The first being Edgar Wright (Baby Driver) who exited Ant-Man also due to creative differences. What’s baffling is that Scott Derickson actually helmed the first Doctor Strange as well, which received critical acclaim and made a truckload of money at the box office.

Anyway, it looks like Marvel Studios has found their replacement. Variety reports that Sam Raimi, the creative mind who made the fantastic Spider-Man 1 and Spider-Man 2 and the laughable Spider-Man 3, all starring Tobey Maguire, is currently in talks with the studio to helm Doctor Strange 2 / Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

While it’s a bummer that Scott Derickson left the project, nobody is going to complain about Sam Raimi coming on board. He makes really cool movies. Apart from the original Spider-Man trilogy, Raimi is also the helmer of the first three Evil Dead movies which have attained cult status over the years. Raimi hasn’t done much as a director in recent years, apart from the mediocre Oz the Great and the Powerful. However, there’s no denying the excitement that his name would bring to the project.

Doctor Strange 2 is still scheduled to go on floors in May 2020.
