Samsung CEO Confirms Galaxy Fold Sales Numbers; Clamshell Foldable Phone Officially Revealed This Friday

During an interview session at CES 2020, Samsung CEO DJ Koh has revealed the actual sales figures for the company’s first foldable phone. Last month, we were led to believe that Samsung’s Galaxy Fold sold 1 million units, but the statement which was released by an unnamed company executive was later denied by its president, Sohn Young-kwon.

According to YonHap news agency, Koh stated that the Fold has sold between 400,000 and 500,000 units. The numbers may not sound impressive to many but given the product’s niche category and RM8388 price tag, the figure is still respectable at best.

The news agency also reported that the Samsung CEO has said that he will be introducing the company’s upcoming clamshell foldable smartphone on Friday during CES 2020. A very recent rumour have pointed out that the new Samsung foldable phone might be running on a Snapdragon 855 SoC instead of the new 865 chipset, and may feature a 10MP front-facing camera.

The upcoming Samsung clamshell foldable smartphone is speculated to be called the Galaxy Fold 2, although that detail is unconfirmed for now. It’s also expected to launch alongside the Galaxy S11/S20 flagship during the company’s Unpacked event later in February, but – as mentioned earlier – we might actually catch a glimpse of it sooner than expected.
