Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 Goes Official: The New Flagship Mobile Chip for 2020

True to what we have heard before, Qualcomm today has officially announced its new flagship mobile processor, the Snapdragon 865. The new chip is just one of several new products that the company has announced at the on-going Snapdragon Tech Summit 2019 in Hawaii.

While today’s announcement only covers just a gist of what Snapdragon 865 has to offer but nevertheless, it is still interesting enough to provide a general picture of the capabilities that are contained within the new flagship chip.

For starters, the ISP on the new Snapdragon 865 is able to process up to 2 Gigapixel per second which the company claimed as the first such mobile ISP in the world that able to achieve that. This allows the chip to support camera with resolution up to 200MP alongside the ability to capture 8K videos.

Not only that, the ISP also allows Snapdragon 865 devices to capture 4K video and 64MP image at the same time. Aside from that, Qualcomm also claimed that the AI performance on the chip’s 5th generation AI Engine is up to two times more than its predecessor.

Not to forget, the Snapdragon 865 is also built with Snapdragon X55 5G modem which comes with support for multiple 5G standard. In other words, devices that are powered by Snapdragon 865 can easily be used throughout the world.

Naturally, the new Snapdragon 865 will be made available in 2020 although the exact release timeline has not yet been revealed. That being said, do expect more details regarding Snapdragon 865 to be revealed later this week, so stay tuned.
