TCL Has A Prototype Foldable Phone That Folds In Two Directions

The Samsung Galaxy Fold and the Huawei Mate X, are the first foldable phones to enter the market. They both also happen to fold in completely different directions. As it turns out, TCL is working on one that combines both, as demonstrated in a pretty outrageous looking prototype.

Being able to fold in two different directions means that it has two hinges and three segments. Each hinge even has a different name. According to CNET, the hinge that folds inward is called the Dragon Hinge, while the one folding outwards is known as the Butterfly Hinge instead.

When unfolded, it takes the form of a  10-inch tablet. On the flip side, it folds in a zigzag shape, with one panel facing the outside for you to use. Unfortunately, this prototype is incapable of escaping the fate of having a crease where the folding happens, much like the Samsung Galaxy Fold.

For now, the mysterious TCL prototype doesn’t yet have a name, price or a production schedule. It doesn’t even have s working display yet. It remains to be seen if the company will indeed continue with this endeavour, and push out a production unit.
