Samsung Granted Patent For AR Headset; Comes With 3D Render
Samsung is no stranger when it comes to VR headsets. That said, we learned last year that the company had plans to venture into AR as well. Now, we’re seeing what may be the first fruits of the company’s efforts, in the form of a patent filing.
Unlike its VR headsets which essentially strap the phone around a wearer’s face, this AR headset looks a lot more like standard glasses. The only obvious giveaway appears to be the cable that’s coming out of the right side of the headset. The projection screens also sit behind each lens.
Likely the most interesting part about this patent is the fact that it comes with a 3D render of the AR headset. It’s unusual for a patent diagram to go so far. On a related note, the patent was filed back in February and granted in August.
Despite the 3D render, this may not be a product that Samsung intends to put on shelves. As with all patents, they are not guaranteed to end up as actual products available in the market.
