Huawei Mate Xs Officially Announced; Launching March 2020

If you’ve been eyeing the Huawei Mate X, you may want to hold off on that thought. The Chinese brand recently announced the follow-up to the device, the Mate Xs, alongside the launch of its Mate 30 5G at an event in Shenzhen, China.

Specs-wise, the Mate Xs will be powered by Huawei’s latest Kirin 990 5G SoC that currently powers the Mate 30 series smartphones as well. To recap, the Kirin 990 is built using the 7nm+ EUV process and features an integrated 5G modem. Along with a beefier Neural Processing Unit (NPU).

Beyond those little details, there’s not a whole lot of information about the rest of the Mate Xs. Judging from the slide, though, the new device looks identical to the original Mate X, but as the old saying goes, you can’t judge a book by its cover. For all we know, Huawei could make some changes to the design along the way.

The Huawei Mate Xs is slated for a March 2020 release, although it wasn’t specified if the launch would be global or just limited to China. Especially given the ongoing trade war between the US and China, as well as the ban that prohibits Huawei to pre-install Google’s Mobile Services (GMS) on to its devices.
