Could these glass shards be the colours for Apple’s next iPhone XR

This could be our first look at the 2019 iPhone XR’s new colours.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman is back at it again, this time with broken glass shards that are apparently the colours of Apple’s successor to the colourful iPhone XR.

As expected, the familiar ‘Black,’ ‘White’ and ‘Yellow’ colours have made a return, with an emerald-looking green and lilac purple being added to the mix. Green and purple seem set to replace the current ‘Coral’ and ‘Blue’ iPhone XR colours. Apple will also likely still produce a ‘Product Red’ version of the XR this year.

That said, it’s unclear where these glass fragments actually came from. They’re likely glass backings that failed Apple’s quality assurance testing during the new iPhone XR’s manufacturing process.

Gurman says that the image of the glass shards was first reported by Japan-based blog Macotakara last week.

While it could be the result of the photo featuring poor colour saturation, it seems Apple is going for a more muted pastel-like colour pallet this time with the iPhone XR’s successor. While current iPhone XR colours also have a muted 1970s-inspired look to them, the hues featured in these glass fragments seem to take that direction a step further.

Just yesterday Gurman tweeted an image of an alleged case molding designed for the successor to the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max and iPhone XR. The new XS and XS Max feature three rear cameras, with the additional ultra wide-angle shooter reportedly being used to give the phone a more expansive range of zoom.

The leaked photo also indicates even the next iPhone XR will feature a sizable camera square despite only featuring two lenses.

Apple is expected to announce the next iPhone XR, iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max in September at the tech giant’s annual hardware event.
