Amazon announces smaller Echo Show 5, set to launch next month
Amazon’s Echo family of devices got a little bit bigger today with the addition of a new 5.5-inch Echo Show smart display.
The device is called the Echo Show 5, and is prived at $99.99 in Canada with pre-orders now open.
The smaller Echo Show can do everything it’s other siblings can plus it has a few tricks of its own.
For one, it has a shutter that can cover the camera for added privacy. The other unique feature is a $29.99 magnetic dock to let users adjust the angle of the device for video calls or regular viewing.
Beyond that, it’s pretty much the same as the regular Gen 2 Echo Show, but a little over half the size, with fewer speakers and a 1-megapixel camera.
Design-wise, the new Alexa-enabled device looks nice and seems to be a solid rival to Google’s new Nest Hub in the competition for the nightstand. The company has even added some new clock faces to the mix to make the little device as visually appealing as possible.
When the device does go up for sale, you’ll be able to buy it from Amazon Canada, Best Buy Canada, Staples, The Source and Leon’s.
Amazon Canada is now accepting pre-orders and the Echo Show 5 goes on sale in Canada starting June 26th.
