Foldable Huawei Mate X Leaks Out Through A Poster In Barcelona
As Mobile World Congress 2019 takes off in Barcelona, unexpected leaks of new phones start to appear from unexpected places. First, it was the Asus Zenfone 6 at the airport, now it is the foldable Huawei Mate X from a wall advertisement being set up somewhere in Barcelona.
From the image seen, we can see the Mate X feature a single foldable phone, unlike the recently announced Galaxy Fold. Instead of folding inwards, the screen folds from the outside, giving the phone an almost 360-degree coverage on the phone itself. When folded, the screen works like the old Galaxy Note Edge, with a curved edge on one side.
Open it up, the Mate X looks similar to the Fold, with a large single-pane OLED display. Interestingly enough, the folding screen does now cover the back entirely, so there is some space for other items. This includes a triple-camera setup alongside the LED flash and other photographic sensors.
It also looks like Huawei may skip selfie cameras altogether, pushing the selfie duty to the rear main cameras. this is helped by the folded screen at the back. There is no other leaked info on the Mate X, but we can expect high-end performance from an SoC such as the Kirin 980, and the same triple camera from the Mate 20 Pro.
The expected launch time window for this phone is sometime this summer; we may be able to see the phone at MWC first so stay tuned for more details here.
