Apple Using Push Notifications To Promote Carpool Karaoke
There are reports of iPhones getting push notifications for Carpool Karaoke. These notifications come without the Apple TV app first asking for permission to send promotional notifications.
We asked around those close to us who used iPhones, but none of them have gotten this. That said, there are others who are sharing their experience with feature on Twitter.
Hey @Apple if I ever get a notification like this again I’m switching to Samsung pic.twitter.com/mpGKYXiSka

If this isn’t an isolated incident, then it would appear that Apple is violating its own App Store Guidelines. Under Section 4.5.3, developers are told to not “spam, phish or send unsolicited messages to customers.” And yet, this is what the Carpool Karaoke notification seems to be.

With all that said, it’s a problem that iPhone users won’t have to deal with once they turn off notifications for the Apple TV app. Unless users are getting these kinds of notifications when they’ve explicitly turned them off, which is another matter entirely.
