Xiaomi To Add HD Support For Netflix On Pocophone F1 By End Of Year

A couple of months ago, it was discovered that the Xiaomi Pocophone F1 had one issue; it couldn’t stream Netflix at resolutions beyond 540p due to the phone missing the Widevine L1 DRM. The good news is that the Chinese brand is currently in the midst of rectifying the issue.

The brand recently made a post on its official MIUI page, stating that a it was was working alongside Google and Qualcomm to come up with a fix for the missing Windvine L1 DRM. And that it would try to release a beta for the Pocophone F1 before the end of year.

Widevine DRMs can be broken down into three certification levels: L1, L2, and L3, with L1 being the highest of the three. For apps such as Netflix, Amazon Video, Hulu, and BBC to be able to stream their content in HD resolutions or greater, a device must carry the Windvine L1 certification.

It still remains to be seen how Xiaomi intends to implement the fix by asking users to send their Pocophone F1 to an official Xiaomi store to physically update the devices, or if the brand will be issuing it via an OTA update.
