Google Pixel 3 XL is difficult to repair with 4/10 rating: iFixit
After DisplayMate rated the Google Pixel 3 XL to have one of the highest rating screens, it’s the teardown expert iFixit which has rated the newly launched smartphone with 4/10 points in terms of its repairability with a detailed teardown article posted on its website. So, Google Pixel 3 XL is a great and powerful smartphone which has a display manufactured by Samsung and the touch controller is taken from Samsung Galaxy S9+. Note that there are four devices in the top best-quality screens and that are Apple iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max, Samsung Galaxy Note 9, Samsung Galaxy S9 and all were made by Samsung Displays.
Back to the teardown by iFixit, they found out that Google has affixed all the components using the standard T3 Torx screws which adds to easy repairability, unlike iPhone XS which had a number of different screws which makes repair work a lot complication. Further, Google has used a lot of glue and adhesive to prevent the phone against water and dust and that’s how it got the IP68 rating. All the components are affixed on the rear and front panel and have been secured so much that few components are camouflaged under other components which there is a metal plate on it to hide it from plain view.
iFixit found out that if any component within the Google Pixel 3 XL needed a fix, it would have to been un-glued to replace the component which is when the smartphone is more susceptible to water since it has lost its cover against water but then, the technician would have to re-glue the glass rear panel which is again a complicated task since there are many components glued with the rear panel.
iFixit accidentally snapped an orange ribbon while pulling out the battery pack as it was hidden underneath it. Further, there is a lot of thermal paste affixed on the underside of the back panel to ensure that the heat dissipation is working properly and it is fair since powerful components generate more heat and that heat must be passed out of the components and the thermal paste helps by transferring the heat from the components to the metal frame. Google Pixel 3 XL received a 4/10 repairability score which is similar to the standard Google Pixel 3.
