Western Digital Brings The WD My Passport Wireless SSD To Malaysia; Starts From RM1099

Western Digital has officially launched the WD My Passport Wireless SSD in Malaysia today. First announced during CES 2018, this portable storage is an upgrade over its previous storage device, the WD My Passport Wireless Pro.

What makes the My Passport Wireless SSD different from its predecessor is its storage medium (obviously). Instead of using the traditional platter-based storage, this storage device is fully equipped with SSDs. Because the device has no mechanical components inside, this also makes the My Passport Wireless SSD more rugged and durable. So rugged in fact, it is capable of withstanding a drop from a height of one metre.

Ports-wise, the My Passport Wireless SSD comes with a USB 3.0 port, one USB 2.0 port, and a built-in SD card reader. In regards to the latter, the SD card reader also comes with a one-touch button that copies all the data inside an SD card directly into the storage device when pressed.

In terms of transfer speeds, the My Passport Wireless SSD is able to sustain sequential read and write speeds of up to 390MB/s. It also supports wireless connectivity via its own 802.11ac Wi-Fi connection, so you can access the drive without having to physically connect it to a PC via cable. On that note, it can also wirelessly stream videos with 4K resolution directly to a phone or tablet, provided these devices have the My Cloud app installed.

Lastly, the My Passport Wireless SSD has a built-in 6700mAh battery, which can be used to charge other mobile devices or allow the device to be continuously used for streaming content for up to 10 hours.

The WD My Passport Wireless SSD is set to be available by the end of July at all IT retail stores across Malaysia, as well as Lazada, Shopee, and 11Street. Pricing starts from RM1099 for 250GB, RM1499 for 500GB, RM2299 for 1TB, and RM3699 at 2TB. Regardless of storage capacity, all variants are backed with a two-year limited warranty.
