Samsung NF1 NVMe SSD Features 8TB Of Storage In A Small Form Factor

Samsung officially launched the new NF1 SSD, its new NVMe SSD that packs a whopping 8TB of storage into a small form factor. Specifically, it features 16 512GB NAND packages that are stacked in 16-layers of 256-Gigabit (GB) 3-bit V-NAND chips into circuit board measuring just 110mm x 30.5mm.

That’s twice the capacity of the typical M.2 NVMe SSDs currently used in hyper-scale server systems, and more than that in ultra-portable notebooks. In terms of performance, the NF1 features a brand new controller design capable of delivering sequential read and write speeds of up 3100MB/s and 2000MB/s, respectively.

It also has impressive random read and write speeds of 500000 IOPS and 50000 IOPS, respectively. To sweeten the pot even further, the NF1 is also fitted with 12GB of LPDDR4 RAM to help maintain those speeds.

At current, Samsung has no plans of releasing the NF1 to the general consumer, and is instead targeting companies that own data centers and enterprise server systems. At the time of writing, Samsung had already began mass production of the NF1, but did not say when it would be available or for how much.
