Samsung ISOCELL Plus Camera Sensor Improves On Colour Accuracy And Low Light Imaging

Samsung has introduced a new entry to its ISOCELL camera sensor family. The new ISOCELL Plus now includes new material to improve separation between pixels and reduce crosstalk. The new pixel material barrier is developed with the help of Fujifilm.

The company said that the new material helps to reduce reflection as well as light absorption by the barriers. This leads to higher light sensitivity – up to 15% better as well as better colour reproduction. When compared to standard Backside Illuminated (BSI) sensors. The technology also allows the same performance as current gen sensors in a package with smaller pixel size.

This development is a remarkable milestone for us as it marks the first commercialisation of our new material. Through continuous cooperation with Samsung, we anticipate to bring more meaningful innovation to mobile cameras.”

Future Samsung smartphones such as the upcoming Galaxy Note 9 may benefit from this technology as well. With the introduction of ISOCELL Plus, we may see Samsung feature 20MP sensors even for its entry-level models without breaking the bank, thanks to lower cost of production and manufacturing.
