Wireless Android Auto will be default in Android P

Kenwood has shared that wireless Android Auto will work with all Android phones running Android P, and some Android Oreo phones.

Kenwood makes third-party entertainment units that work with Android Auto and CarPlay. The company’s latest range of units have also added wireless connectivity, so some Android phones can use Android Auto without being plugged in.

Currently, the only devices that support wireless Android Auto are the Pixel, Pixel XL, Pixel 2, Pixel 2 XL, Nexus 5X and 6P. As long as they’ve been updated to run Android 8.0 (Oreo) and higher, these phones will support wireless Android Auto.

In its press release, the company says that other device will work with wireless Android Auto once they’re updated to Android P. The company also added that some phone manufacturers are working with Google to bring wireless Android Auto to Android 8.0.

All this news makes it seem like Google is making a big push to bring wireless Android Auto to as many devices as possible.  So maybe well start to see first party car manufactures releasing wireless Android Auto stereo units as well.
