Samsung stops Android Oreo update for Galaxy S7, S7 Edge; report
Samsung has temporarily halted the rollout of Android Oreo to its Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge smartphones, according to a SamMobile report.
The temporary halt allegedly comes after some users started reporting boot loops and reboots occurring on devices after the update. Moderator posts from Canadian and European help forums supposedly confirm this information.
For users who have already installed the update, Samsung has two suggestions. The first is visit a Support Centre where its teams can restore your phone and–hopefully–keep your data.
If you can’t get to a Support Centre, you’ll have to reset the phone using Recovery mode, which will wipe all your data.
There is no word yet on when the issue will be resolved or when the update will continue. Samsung faced a similar issue with the Samsung S8 and S8+ Oreo update earlier this year. It took a few weeks to correct the issues and resume the update with the S8. I’d expect a similar timeline here.
It’s unfortunate to see another set of Samsung devices suffering from a similar issue. Hopefully the company is able to resolve it quickly and resume the update without further issues.
