Sony To Invest US$250 Million Into Epic Games
Sony has announced that it will be making an investment of US$250 million (~RM1.07 billion) into Epic Games. The “minor” investment, as Sony’s official statement, will further cement the close relationship between the two companies’ mission to advance the state of the art in technology, entertainment, and online services.
Sony’s move isn’t exactly a massive surprise, especially when one considers the relationship between the two tech giants. Back in May, Epic Games made the choice to showcase its new Unreal Engine 5 with Sony instead of Microsoft. By releasing Unreal Engine 5 Lumen and Nanite tech demo that was running on the Japanese corporations’ upcoming PlayStation 5 (PS5) console.
As we mentioned, Sony’s US$250 million investment into Epic Games isn’t massive and in the grand scale of things, only translate to approximately 1.4% of Epic Games’ total shares. Valuing the Unreal Engine creator’s total shares to be somewhere in the vicinity of US$18 billion (~RM76 billion).
