Samsung Galaxy Watch 3 App Reveals New Hand Gestures And Fall Detection Features

The Samsung Galaxy Watch 3 is one of the five new devices we’ll be seeing during the company’s annual Galaxy Unpacked event next week. It appears that Samsung probably didn’t want to wait too long to unveil what new features the smartwatch has to offer, according to XDA.

The site reports that details of the watch was discovered after combing through the APK code from the Galaxy Watch 3 plugin app, which was released a couple of days back. Initially the plugin merely added the watch in the list of compatible devices in the Samsung Gear app, but held out from unlocking its features.

After decoding the APK file, XDA’s Max Weinbach reveals that the Galaxy Watch 3 will have several new features including hand gesture commands to answer calls or to take photos, fall detection and a slew of new watch faces. Users can clench and unclench their fist to answer calls, make a fist and open it up to take photos, and rotate their wrist to mute alarms or calls.

Much like the Apple Watch’s fall detection feature, the Galaxy Watch 3 will ring for 60 seconds to get a response from the user if a tumble is detected. If there is no response, the watch will text the user’s location and a five-second audio recording to emergency contacts.

According to previous leaks, the Samsung Galaxy Watch 3 is expected to be available with a 41mm or 45mm display, LTE and WiFi configurations, health monitoring capabilities, and a battery capacity of either 247mAh or 340mAh, depending on size. The device will see an official unveiling during the upcoming Galaxy Unpacked event next week on 5 August 2020.
