Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra May Ship Out With Dynamic Refresh Rate Display

Samsung’s next Galaxy Unpacked event is less than a month away now, and as you’d expect, rumours and speculations about its upcoming Galaxy Note 20 series smartphones are being sent into overdrive. The most recent rumour suggesting that the display of the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra will have the option of dynamically switching refresh rates.

Evidence of this feature was first posted by serial leakster Ice Universe (@UniverseIce). Specifically, the feature would enable the Note 20 Ultra to alternate between 60Hz and 120Hz. Based on which app is opened or what content is being played at the time.

Now, we should point out that there is a difference between having a display having an adaptive refresh rate and variable refresh rate. Having an adaptive refresh rate means that the display is capable of automatically switching between different refresh rates – in this case, it’s between 60Hz and 120Hz. Having a variable refresh rate means that the display runs between the minimum and maximum refresh rate, but has to be manually set.

This is one of the firmware versions of the Galaxy S20 series. We see that not only the WQHD + 120Hz mode can be selected, but also the dynamic mode, which is a very mature solution.better than limited to FHD

As it stands, this is essentially just a rumour, and Ice Universe’s findings can still be dispelled by the Samsung, either before or during its Unpacked event. As such, take this news with a grain of salt, at least until 5 August.
